Download to Donate for Haiti is a compilation album by various artists. It was released on January 19, 2010 through Machine Shop and Warner Bros. Records. The album was produced by Mike Shinoda and co-produced by Enrique Iglesias. American rock band Linkin Park started a project called Music for Relief in 2005, which has done relief work for the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004, the 2010 Haiti earthquake, the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami and Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Linkin Park released a single for the album titled as "Not Alone", which was recorded for their third studio album Minutes to Midnight, as the first and introductory track on this album. The single was released almost after two years of the release of the album, due to the release of their fourth album A Thousand Suns . This album is one of the albums released via Download to Donate.

In 2011, a sequel to the album, titled Download to Donate for Haiti V2.0 , was released.

Background

The project was started by Music for Relief, who is working alongside United Nations Foundation, Habitat for Humanity and the Dave Matthews Band's BAMA Works to provide food, water, medical supplies and sustainable housing for those affected by the 2010 Haiti earthquake. Mike Shinoda and Enrique Iglesias promoted the compilation on Larry King Live . [2] The compilation has raised around $270,000 with 115,000 downloads. [3]

Composition

The album consists of various genres, but mainly it includes electronic rock. There are few songs which have an alternative touch in it. Songs like "Typical Situation", "Times Like These" and "Gargoyle" are live versions of the original songs, and songs like "The Wind Blows", "Slipstream" and "Gold Guns Girls" are remixes by artists Skrillex and Shinoda.

Linkin Park is an American rock band from Agoura Hills, California. Enrique Iglesias Spanish singer-songwriter and actor

Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler is a Spanish singer, songwriter, actor, record producer and philanthropist who is known as the King of Latin Pop. He began his career during the mid-1990s on American Spanish-language record label Fonovisa Records under the stage name Enrique Martinez, before switching to his notable surname Iglesias. His father Julio Iglesias was a very successful singer and Iglesias wanted to make it on his own without receiving benefits from his family name. Music for Relief was founded by the band Linkin Park in response to the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Throughout its first twelve years, thanks to incredible artist partners, donors and supporters, Music for Relief responded to more than 30 natural disasters across four continents providing immediate relief and funding long-term recovery with a focus on sustainability. Always thinking about collaboration, in March 2018, Music for Relief announced it would join forces with Entertainment Industry Foundation to amplify the results of its disaster relief and recovery work.

Machine Shop Records

Machine Shop Records is a record label founded by American rock band Linkin Park members, Brad Delson and Mike Shinoda, in 2001. The label is notable for releasing music in rock, hip hop, underground hip hop, alternative rock and nu metal music amongst other genres.

"Points of Authority" is a song by Linkin Park as the fourth track taken from their first studio album, Hybrid Theory. Mike Shinoda's verses originally had different lyrics, and Chester Bennington's parts became no different from the Hybrid Theory version. The song was released in 2001 as a promo release. Download to Donate is a program by Music for Relief, a non-profit organization established by Linkin Park in 2005 to help victims of natural disasters to help them recover from such disasters. So far, the program has released three compilations: two to support the 2010 earthquake in Haiti and one for the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. Several artists contribute songs to the compilations, and people are encouraged to either download the songs, in which the proceeds will go to relief efforts for the disasters; or to simply donate any amount money for the cause.
