Dr. Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station or Vijayawada Thermal Power Plant is located at Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. It is named after, Narla Tata Rao, the erstwhile chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Electricity board. The power plant is one of the coal-based power plants of APGENCO. It is well placed between Ibrahimpatnam and Kondapalli villages. [1]
Dr Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Plant is also known as Vijayawada Thermal Power Plant. It was developed under 4 stages, with the project cost of Rs 193 Crores and Rs 511 Crores respectively.
Again with an investment of RS 840 Crores 2 units were commissioned under III Stage.
The seventh unit of 500 MW was commissioned in 2009.
The station stood first in country during 94–95, 95–96, 96–97, 97-98 and 2001-02 by achieving the highest plant load factor.
The station has received many prestigious awards from various organisations. The station has received Meritorious Productivity Awards for 21 consecutive years and Incentive awards for 12 consecutive years. [2]

NLC India Limited (NLC) is a central public sector undertaking under the administrative control of the Ministry of Coal, Government of India. It annually produces about 30 million tonnes of Lignite from opencast mines at Neyveli in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India and at Barsingsar in Bikaner district of Rajasthan state. The lignite is used at pithead thermal power stations of 3640 MW installed capacity to produce electricity. Its joint venture has a 1000 MW thermal power station using coal. Lately, it has diversified into renewable energy production and installed 1404 MW solar power plant to produce electricity from photovoltaic (PV) cells and 51 MW electricity from windmills.

There is a proposal to merge this place into Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) to form a Greater Vijayawada Municipal Corporation.

Sasan Ultra Mega Power Plant or Sasan UMPP is one of the four Ultra Mega Power Projects awarded by the Ministry of Power, Government of India. It is located in Sasan village near Waidhan in Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh. Sasan UMPP is India's largest integrated power generation and coal mine project with 3,960 MW power plant and 20 MT per year coal mining capacity. It is presently the 4th largest electricity generation power plant in India after NTPC Vindhyachal, Mundra Thermal Power and Mundra UMPP. The total project value of Sasan UMPP is ₹25,186 crores.
