Dress Smart is a franchise of shopping centres in New Zealand that specialises in outlet stores.
Dress Smart Onehunga opened in 1995 as New Zealand's first factory outlet shopping centre. Onehunga was chosen for its central location and direct access from the city and the airport. [3] Initially, Dress Smart started with 20 outlet stores on the former premises of the 3 Guys supermarket and other surrounding retail spaces. [4] Following its opening, additional shops began operating in temporary premises on the southern side of Paynes Lane. This led to a significant expansion of the mall, completed in 2005, increasing the total number of retailers to 110. [5]

Established in 1903 by Arthur Barnett the store first began as a drapery for men and boys, progressing over the years to become one of Dunedin's most successful department stores. As well as their flagship George Street store, Arthur Barnett had stores in Balclutha, Alexandra, Oamaru, and Christchurch. They also briefly had a branch in Melbourne which operated from 1970 to 1977. This branch sold mainly carpeting and furniture. The final Arthur Barnett store and its online store was taken over by Invercargill-based department store chain H & J Smith in 2015.
