ECA2 is a French Event production company located in Paris specialized in creation, design and production of multimedia [2] shows and large-scale events. ECA2 is member of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions and also the Themed Entertainment Association. In 2016 the company has fifteen permanent employees, and is headed by Jean-Christophe Canizares. [3] Depending on the project, ECA2 hires up to a hundred specialists, including architects, project management, technical director, sound designer, lighting designer, and art direction. Since more than thirty years, ECA2 has created and produced projects in France, China, Singapore, Mexico and around the world. [4]

History

ECA2 was established in 1974. It has mainly worked on special events such as World's fairs, [5] Olympic Games Ceremonies [6] and permanent shows for leisure and amusement parks.

In 1989, ECA2 and Yves Pépin created the first water screen display. [7] In the 1990s the company patented the "Aqua Scan", a process to project cinema size images on a water screen, which was later adopted by Disney and Universal Studios.

In 2012, ECA2 created, designed and produced the Big-O Show [8] for the international Yeosu Expo 2012, South Korea. This entailed developing the Cascade Screen, a large water curtain. [7]

Productions

ECA2 has managed productions for many events, including the 25th anniversary of the United Arab Emirates in 1996, the 1998 FIFA World Cup Ceremonies in Stade de France, the Eiffel Tower Millennium Show, [9] the 2003 All-Africa Games in Abuja Stadium, Nigeria, and the "Luz y voces del Tajin" in Veracruz, Mexico, 2002 to 2004. Other ceremonies include the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens [10] and the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Royal Weddings in Qatar, the 2011 Summer Universiade, Shenzhen, the 50th anniversary of Togo's Independence in 2011, and the "Circle of Light Festival" [11] on the Red Square in, Moscow in 2012.

ECA2 has also produced a number of permanent shows, beginning in 1998 with "Poseidon's Fury" at Universal's Islands of Adventure in Orlando. In 2002, the company produced "Le Lac aux Images" and "Le Miroir d'Uranie" at Futuroscope in France, and Magical Sentosa, on Sentosa Island in Singapore. In 2004 ECA2 set up an installation at City Mall in Nanjing and another, "BraviSEAmo!, at Tokyo Disney Sea. ECA2 created "Songs of the Sea" on Sentosa Island, Singapore in 2007 [12] and "Le Mystère de la note Bleue" at Futuroscope in 2009. In 2010 they set up "The Ancient Secret" [13] at Akshardham Temple, India, and in 2011 they created "Mangrove Groove" [14] in Shenzhen, China. "Big-O, Wonderful Moonkey", [15] [16] was set up for Expo 2012 in South Korea, and a display was also created for Beijing National Stadium. ECA2 also created productions for World's Fairs (Expos) in 1998, 2001, 2001, and 2010. In 2022 ECA2 delivered Kiss The Stars Show in Phu Quoc, Vietnam. [17]

The theme of the exposition was "Better City – Better Life" and signifies Shanghai's new status in the 21st century as the "next great world city". The Expo emblem features the Chinese character 世 modified to represent three people together with the 2010 date. It had the largest number of countries participating and was the most expensive Expo in the history of the world's fairs. The Shanghai World Expo was also the largest World's Fair site ever at 5.28 square km.

China International Copyright Expo is an annual event that brings companies and organizations, both governmental and independent, to China to discuss various aspects of copyright and intellectual property rights (IPR). The Expo was first held in 2008 and was attended by experts and organizations from countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, South Korea, and many more. The Expo "actively builds an international copyright trade platform, which is focused on industry exchange and trade, consisting of four parts: International Copyright Forum, Industrial Exhibition, Thematic Activities, and Cultural Performance Activities."

<i>Songs of the Sea</i> 2007 musical by Philippe Villar and Pascal Lengagne

Songs of the Sea was a multimedia show located at Siloso Beach on Sentosa Island, Singapore. Designed by ECA2 founder, Yves Pépin, Songs of the Sea started its operations on 26 March 2007, a day after the Sentosa Musical Fountain ceased operations. The fountain is a $30 million investment by Sentosa to enhance its entertainment product offerings and to attract more tourists. It was the world's only permanent show set in the sea – with pyrotechnics displays, water jets that could shoot up to 40 meters, laser show, flame bursts, a live 7-person cast, and an open-air viewing gallery which can accommodate 3,000 visitors. Songs of the Sea had its final show on 4 May 2014, and was closed to make way for a brand new multi-sensory production titled Wings of Time, which was launched on 17 June that year.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sentosa Musical Fountain</span> Dancing Fountain in Sentosa, Singapore

Sentosa Musical Fountain, also known as the Magical Fountain of Sentosa, or as the Musical Fountain by locals, was a former musical fountain water feature and entertainment venue made by Waltzing Waters on Sentosa Island in Singapore. It was located on a now-demolished portion of the Imbiah Lookout entertainment zone on the island. The Musical Fountain was officially opened on 11 June 1982, and ceased operations 25 years later on 26 March 2007, and was demolished that same year. The venue arena could accommodate more than 5000 people. It hosted five different shows through the 25 years it had been in operation, including the famous Magical Sentosa show which ran during the last 5 years of the fountain's operations.

Yves Pépin is a creator of multimedia shows and large-scale events including the multi-awarded Eiffel Tower Millennium Show. In the course of his career, Pépin's projects have been honored with many awards; an outstanding personal honor was received in 2006, when his peers in the Themed Entertainment Association, the international association for creators of compelling places and experiences, presented him with the prestigious TEA Thea Award for a Lifetime of Distinguished Achievements.

BraviSEAmo! was a nighttime water show at Tokyo DisneySea. The show featured water, pyrotechnic, and firework effects and was performed on the lagoon of the Mediterranean Harbor. The show was directed by Yves Pépin from ECA2 and used little dialogue, instead featuring an orchestral score by Gavin Greenaway. BraviSEAmo! replaced Tokyo DisneySea's earlier nighttime show DisneySea Symphony, and was replaced by a new version of Fantasmic! in 2011. The show ran from July 17, 2004 to November 13, 2010 and was sponsored by NTT DoCoMo throughout its run.

<i>Magical Sentosa</i> Musical by Philippe Villar and Pascal Lengagne

Magical Sentosa was a multimedia nighttime show hosted at the Sentosa Musical Fountain on the resort island of Sentosa, Singapore. The multimedia show is the last musical to be staged on the fountain itself. The musical ran for less than five years before being eventually discontinued in 2007 and replaced by Songs of the Sea.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Expo 2025</span> World expo held in Osaka, Japan

Expo 2025 is an upcoming World Expo organised and sanctioned by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), which will be held in Osaka, Japan. It will take place for six months during 2025, opening 13 April 2025 and closing 13 October 2025. It will be held for 184 days This will be the third time Osaka hosts a World Expo, having previously hosted Expo 1970 and Expo 1990. The event will return to its traditional 5-year scheduling cycle after the Expo 2020 was delayed to 2021 and 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The projected visitor count is approximately 28 million.
