EVBox is an electric vehicle supply equipment company based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Founded in 2010 by Bram van der Leur and Huub Rothengatter, [2] it currently has 13 offices around the world, including Amsterdam, Antwerp, Bordeaux, Copenhagen, Libertyville, Madrid, Milton Keynes, Munich, New York City, Oslo, Paris, Rotterdam, and Warsaw. [3] EVBox manufactures and distributes electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and charging management software. As of December 2020, it has a global installed base of over 190,000 charging points. EVBox Group is a provider of charging solutions for electric vehicles (EVs). [5] Founded in 2010, EVBox started when the movement for EVs took off. In 2014, Gilde Equity Management Benelux became EVBox's new major shareholder to help EVBox expand internationally. In 2017, EVBox was acquired by ENGIE Digital, a subset of the French multinational electric utility company Engie. [6] In July 2018, EVBox acquired French fast charging manufacturer, EVTronic. [7]

EVBox's product portfolio includes hardware (charging stations and accessories), software (charging management systems) and services (maintenance and mobility services).

Software

EVBox currently offers access to their charging management software, EVBox Everon that helps businesses and individuals track, manage, and optimize electric car charging.

In 2017, the company announced the launch of Everon, a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) charging management tool that enables businesses and municipalities to facilitate the experience of electric vehicle charging. [9]

Partners

EVBox uses an indirect approach to distributing its products. EVBox partners with network providers, EVSE experts, electrical equipment companies, and key companies from various industries to provide charging infrastructure for cities, enterprises, and residents. These companies include ENGIE, TSG and more.

Through joint partnerships, EVBox also provides cities around the world with charging infrastructure, such as Amsterdam (with Vattenfall and Heijmans), Rotterdam (with ENGIE), Monaco, [10] and New York State (with EVConnect). [11]

Awards

In 2016, EVBox was ranked 22nd in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 in the Netherlands and was awarded 1st place in the CleanTech sector. It made its mark with a growth rate of 466% over the previous three years. [12]

In 2017, EVBox was named a Grid Edge Award winner by Greentech Media and highlighted as an industry leader focused on paving the way towards tomorrow's distributed energy systems. [13]

In 2018, EVBox was named a CES Innovations Award Honoree in the category of Smart Energy with the Elvi product. [14] Later that year, it was also featured on the Inc. 5000 Europe List of fastest-growing private companies, alongside companies like Intuit, Timberland, and Microsoft.

In 2019, EVBox was named a leading provider of Public Charging Network and EV Charging Services by Navigant Research. [15] Later in 2019, EVBox won a CES Innovations Award, an iF Design Award, and a Red Dot Award with EVBox Iqon. [16]

In 2023, EVBox Livo won the Red Dot Award for its outstanding product design.

In 2024, EVBox Liviqo won the Red Dot Award for its outstanding product design.

An electric vehicle charging network is an infrastructure system of charging stations to recharge electric vehicles. The term electric vehicle infrastructure (EVI) may refer to charging stations in general or the network of charging stations across a nation or region. The proliferation of charging stations can be driven by charging station providers or government investment, and is a key influence on consumer behaviour in the transition from internal combustion engine vehicles to electric vehicles. The adoption of plug-in electric vehicles in the Netherlands is actively supported by the Dutch government through the exemption of the registration fee and road taxes. These purchase incentives have been adjusted over time. Considering the potential of plug-in electric vehicles in the country due to its relative small size and geography, the Dutch government set a target of 15,000 to 20,000 electric vehicles with three or more wheels on the roads in 2015; 200,000 vehicles in 2020; and 1 million vehicles in 2025. The Combined Charging System (CCS) is a standard for charging electric vehicles. It can use Combo 1 (CCS1) or Combo 2 (CCS2) connectors to provide power at up to 350 kilowatts (kW) . These two connectors are extensions of the IEC 62196 Type 1 and Type 2 connectors, with two additional direct current (DC) contacts to allow high-power DC fast charging. In response to demand for faster charging, 400 kW CCS chargers have been deployed by charging networks and 700 kW CCS chargers have been demonstrated.

Ionity is a high-power charging station network for electric vehicles to facilitate long-distance travel across Europe. It's a joint venture founded by the BMW Group, Mercedes-Benz Group, Ford Motor Company and Volkswagen Group, but other automotive manufacturers are invited to help expand the network. In November 2020 Hyundai Motor Group entered Ionity as the 5th shareholder. Ionity enables roaming from electric mobility service providers (EMSP's).

Pod Point is a UK provider of electric vehicle charging station. It provides charging units for home, business and public use. Since forming in 2009, Pod Point has manufactured and sold over 220,000 charging points. It has also developed one of the UK's largest public networks, connecting EV drivers with charging stations nationwide at locations such as Tesco, Lidl, Sainsbury's, Center Parcs and Southern Rail. Since 2014, when it signed a partnership with automaker Nissan, it also operates in Norway.

Byton was a Chinese-German all-electric vehicle automotive brand established in 2017 and incorporated in Hong Kong, co-founded by former BMW and Nissan executives. Byton unveiled its first concept car to the public in January 2018. It planned to introduce its M-Byte SUV model first, with the start of production and sales scheduled for late 2019, however developmental delays and financial troubles repeatedly pushed back the launch.

The Honda e is an electric car that was manufactured by Japanese automaker Honda and sold in Japan from 2020 to 2024 and in Europe from 2020 to 2023. It is a supermini with a five-door hatchback design and a battery-electric powertrain that drives the rear wheels. The vehicle is styled with a retro look reminiscent of the first-generation Civic. It was previewed by the 2017 Urban EV Concept with the production version first shown publicly in 2019.

EO Charging (EO) is a British provider of technology-enabled charging solutions for electric vehicle fleets. It designs and manufactures EV charging stations and hardware-agnostic cloud-based charge point management software. The company was founded in 2014 and is headquartered in the UK.
