East Hills Academy is a public special education school located in Chula Vista, California, and is part of the Sweetwater Union High School District. The academy provides specialized education for students in grades 7 through 12 with severe learning, emotional, social (autism), and cognitive disabilities. [2]
Established in 2007, East Hills Academy was created to provide a local educational option for students with special needs, particularly those previously placed in private, non-public schools. Its goal is to offer educational services in a less restrictive setting, with access to mainstream programs and extracurricular activities, as the school shares a campus with Olympian High School. The academy also integrates related services such as assistive technology, speech therapy, occupational therapy, counseling, and behavioral support. Class sizes are small, with a maximum of seven students in the moderate/severe program and twelve students in the mild/moderate program.

Inclusion in education refers to including all students to equal access to equal opportunities of education and learning, and is distinct from educational equality or educational equity. It arose in the context of special education with an individualized education program or 504 plan, and is built on the notion that it is more effective for students with special needs to have the said mixed experience for them to be more successful in social interactions leading to further success in life. The philosophy behind the implementation of the inclusion model does not prioritize, but still provides for the utilization of special classrooms and special schools for the education of students with disabilities.
