Eden Futsal Club is an Irish futsal club based in Blanchardstown, Fingal. The club played under various names including English in Dublin, Sporting Fingal EID, EID Futsal and Eden College. In 2008 they were founder members of the Emerald Futsal League and between 2010 and 2014 they won the FAI Futsal Cup five times in a row. As a result, they also represented the Republic of Ireland in the UEFA Futsal Cup on five consecutive occasions between 2010–11 and 2014–15.

History

Emerald Futsal League

In 2008 English in Dublin were founding members of the Emerald Futsal League. [2] They were effectively the futsal team of an English language school of the same name based in Merrion Square. [3] [4] In 2009 they became affiliated with Sporting Fingal F.C. and began playing as Sporting Fingal EID. [5] [6] After the Sporting Fingal League of Ireland team disbanded, the futsal team continued to play as EID Futsal. [7] Playing as EID Futsal they won their first Emerald Futsal League title in 2011, defeating Shamrock Rovers 3–1 in the final. [8] [9] [10] In 2012 the club became affiliated to Eden College, another English language school. [10] [11] [12] [13] Playing as Eden Futsal Club, the club won a second league title in 2014, this time after defeating Transylvania 6–5 in the final. [14]

FAI Futsal Cup

In 2010 Sporting Fingal EID won the FAI Futsal Cup after defeating Blue Magic 4–2 in the final. [15] As EID Futsal they also won the 2011 and 2012 FAI Futsal Cups, again defeating Blue Magic in both finals. [16] [17] [11] Playing as Eden College and then as then as Eden Futsal, the club won two further FAI Futsal Cups in 2013 and 2014. In the finals they defeated Shamrock Rovers and FCG Dublin Futsal respectively [18] [19]

UEFA Futsal Cup

As a result of winning the FAI Futsal Cup five times in a row between 2010 and 2014, Eden also represented the Republic of Ireland in the UEFA Futsal Cup on five consecutive occasions between 2010–11 and 2014–15. In 2010–11 and 2012–13 they won their preliminary groups and qualified for the main round. On the other three occasions, they finished as runners up in their preliminary groups. In 2014–15 they also acted as host of their group.

2010–11

In the 2010–11 UEFA Futsal Cup preliminary round Sporting Fingal EID travelled to Kaunas and after defeating the host team, FK Nautara Kaunas, and FC Kaghsi Yerevan (Armenia), 5–3 and 7–3 respectively, they won their group. In doing so they became the first team from the Republic of Ireland to progress beyond the preliminary round. [20] [21] [22] [23] [24] However they failed to impress in the main round and lost all three of their games.

2012–13

In the 2012–13 UEFA Futsal Cup EID Futsal won their preliminary group and qualified for the main round for second time. [11] However once they again they finished fourth.

2014–15

The 2014–15 UEFA Futsal Cup saw Eden Futsal host their preliminary group. The tournament was held at the National Basketball Arena between 25 August and 29 August 2014. [10] Eden subsequently finished as runners up in the group. [30]

National Basketball Arena An indoor sporting arena located in Ireland

National Basketball Arena, also known as Tallaght Arena, is an indoor sporting arena located in Tymon Park, Tallaght, South Dublin, adjacent to the M50 motorway. The capacity of the arena is 2,500 people and it opened in January 1993. It is used mainly for basketball events, but has also hosted other indoor sports, most notably futsal, as well as exhibitions, concerts and cultural events.

Sporting Fingal F.C.

Sporting Fingal Football Club was an Irish association football club based in Fingal. Between 2008 and 2010, the club played three seasons in the League of Ireland. During their first two seasons they played in the First Division before winning promotion to the Premier Division. During the 2009 and 2010 seasons, the club also entered a team in the A Championship. During their short stay in the League of Ireland, Sporting Fingal were relatively successful. As well as gaining promotion to the Premier Division, they also won both the 2009 FAI Cup and the 2010 A Championship Cup and qualified for the UEFA Europa League on two occasions. In addition to fielding teams in the League of Ireland, Sporting Fingal also organised Powerchair Football, Special Olympics football and futsal teams. Their futsal team won the 2010 FAI Futsal Cup and qualified for the 2010–11 UEFA Futsal Cup.

The Republic of Ireland national futsal team has represented the Republic of Ireland in the UEFA Futsal Championship. The Republic of Ireland has, to date, never qualified for the final stages of a major tournament. It has, however, taken part in several invitational tournaments, such as the 2008 Four Nations Futsal Cup. It is organised by the Football Association of Ireland.

Ciara Grant (footballer, born 1993)

Ciara Grant is a Republic of Ireland women's international footballer who has played for Raheny United and UCD Waves. In 2010, she was a member of the Republic of Ireland U-17 squad that were runners-up in the 2010 UEFA Women's Under-17 Championship and quarter-finalists in the 2010 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. Grant has also played Gaelic football for Donegal GAA.

Karen Duggan is a former Republic of Ireland women's international footballer who currently plays for Peamount United. She has previously played for UCD Waves. Between 2013 and 2016 Duggan was selected for the Women's National League Team of the Season for four successive seasons. She was the only player selected all four seasons. In 2015–16 she was also WNL Senior Player of the Season. Duggan has also played camogie at club, university and county level.

Siobhán Killeen is a Republic of Ireland women's international footballer. She has also played for UCD, Raheny United and Shelbourne Ladies. In 2010, she was a member of the Republic of Ireland U-17 squad that were runners-up in the 2010 UEFA Women's Under-17 Championship and quarter-finalists in the 2010 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. Killeen has also played senior ladies' Gaelic football for Dublin.

2009 League of Ireland First Division

The 2009 League of Ireland First Division season was the 25th season of the League of Ireland First Division. The First Division was contested by 12 teams and UCD won the title. Third placed Sporting Fingal also won the 2009 FAI Cup Final, qualified for the 2010–11 UEFA Europa League and were promoted to the Premier Division after winning a promotion/relegation play off.

Andy Boyle Irish professional footballer

Andrew Boyle is an Irish professional footballer, who primarily plays as a centre-back. Boyle currently plays for Dundalk. He has previously played for League of Ireland sides Dundalk, UCD and Shelbourne, Scottish club Dundee English Club Preston North End and on loan at Ross County. With Dundalk, Boyle was the team's vice-captain and was part of the first Irish side to reach the play-off round of the UEFA Champions League in August 2016.

Ciarán Kilduff

Ciarán Kilduff is an Irish footballer who plays as a striker for Shelbourne in the League of Ireland Premier Division. He has played for six clubs in the League of Ireland throughout his career and appeared 16 times in European competition, playing in the Europa League group stages in two separate seasons. The first occasion was with Shamrock Rovers when they became the first Irish side to reach the group stage of the Europa League in 2011, and he was also part of the Dundalk team that qualified for the Europa League group stages after becoming the first Irish club to reach the play-off round of the Champions League in 2016.

The FAI Futsal Cup is a cup competition organized by the Football Association of Ireland for futsal teams based in the Republic of Ireland. The winners qualify to represent the Republic of Ireland in the UEFA Futsal Cup. The competition was introduced in 2007 and the inaugural winners were Shamrock Rovers. The 2007 tournament was referred to as the Eircom U21 Futsal League and the 2008 and 2009 tournaments were referred to as the Futsal League of Ireland or the FAI National Futsal League. Since 2010 it has generally been referred to as the FAI Futsal Cup.

The Emerald Futsal League was a futsal league featuring teams based in the Republic of Ireland. It was initially planned that the league would develop into a full national league. However the vast majority of its member clubs are based in the Greater Dublin Area. It is effectively a provincial league and, as a result, is also referred to as the Emerald Futsal League (Leinster). The league was introduced in 2008 and the inaugural winners were Brasilforall. Teams from the league cannot automatically qualify for the UEFA Futsal Cup but can qualify by winning the FAI Futsal Cup.

Shamrock Rovers Futsal Club was an Irish futsal club based in Tallaght, South Dublin. It was the futsal team of Shamrock Rovers F.C.. In 2007 they were the inaugural winners of the FAI Futsal Cup and they subsequently represented the Republic of Ireland in the 2007–08 UEFA Futsal Cup. They were the first team to represent the Republic of Ireland in the UEFA Futsal Cup. Between 2009 and 2011 they also played in three successive Emerald Futsal League title play-off finals, winning the competition in 2009 and 2010.
