Education in Jammu and Kashmir

Education in Jammu and Kashmir is based on 5-tier model which includes primary schools, middle schools, higher secondary schools, Colleges and University. [1] As per the census of 2011, Jammu and Kashmir has the literacy rate of 68%. [2] However, there has been an increase in the numbers in recent years. [3]

History

The modern education system was introduced in Kashmir in the second half of the 19th century by Christian missionaries. Maharaja Ranbir Singh's School was the only school run by the state in 1874. In 1880, J.H. Knowles opened the first missionary school was opened in Srinagar. [4]

Katra or Katra Vaishno Devi, as it is popularly known, is a small town in Reasi district in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India, situated in the foothills of the Trikuta Mountains, where the holy shrine of Vaishno Devi is located. It is located 42 km (26 mi) from the city of Jammu.

Ganderbal Town in Jammu and Kashmir, India

It has an average elevation of 1,619 metres. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, commonly referred to as SMVD University or SMVDU, is a state university recognized by UGC under section 2(f) and 12(B) and is established on an 470-acre (190 ha) campus located near Katra, Jammu and Kashmir. It is situated near the shrine of the Mata Vaishno Devi, after which it is named. The university is fully residential and provides technical education in the field of engineering, science, management, philosophy and other subjects of contemporary importance, with all technical courses recognised by AICTE, UGC and COA.

Reasi district District of Jammu and Kashmir in India

Reasi district is a district of the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The Reasi district is bordered by Udhampur district and Ramban district in the east, Jammu district in the south, Rajouri district in the west and by Kulgam district on the north. The Reasi and Rajouri tehsils formed a joint district called the "Reasi district" at the time of princely state's accession to India in 1947. As part of the reorganisation, the two tehsils were separated and Reasi was merged with the Udhampur district. It again became a separate district in 2006.

Uttar Sampark Kranti Express

The 12445 / 12446 Uttar Sampark Kranti Express is a Sampark Kranti Express train which connects New Delhi railway station to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra railway station. The train runs daily via Jammu Tawi, Jalandhar Cantonment, Ludhiana, Ambala, Panipat and Udhampur, covering a distance of 655 km at an average speed of 57 km/hr.

S. P. Varma

S. P. Varma is a social worker and a peace activist from Jammu and Kashmir who has made exemplary contribution by spreading the message of peace in trouble-torn areas of the Kashmir valley. Sarvodaya Express is a Express train of the Indian Railways connecting Gandhidham Junction in Gujarat and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra of Jammu and Kashmir. It is currently being operated with 12473/12474 train numbers on a weekly basis.

Jammu and Kashmir (union territory) Region administered by India

Jammu and Kashmir is a region administered by India as a union territory and consisting of the southern portion of the larger Kashmir region, which has been the subject of a dispute between India and Pakistan since 1947, and between India and China since 1962. The Line of Control separates Jammu and Kashmir from the Pakistani-administered territories of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan in the west and north. It lies to the north of the Indian states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab and to the west of Ladakh, which is also subject to the dispute as a part of Kashmir, and administered by India as a union territory.

Ayaz Rasool Nazki is an Indian author, painter, and educator. As an author, he has contributed more than a dozen books in Kashmiri on poetry, prose, novel, and biographical account. He also writes in English and Urdu.
