Edward B. Montgomery (born July 3,1955) [1] is an American economist,academic,and politician who currently serves as the president of Western Michigan University. He is one of the key players in helping pull the United States out of the automotive crisis.
Montgomery graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania,in 1973 and was inducted into their alumni hall of fame in 2010. [2] He earned his bachelor's degree magna cum laude from Pennsylvania State University in 1976 and his master's and doctoral degrees in economics from Harvard University in 1980 and 1982,respectively. [1] [3] His doctoral dissertation was titled "Tests of Alternative Hypotheses on the Decline in the Personal Saving Rate". [3]
From 1981 to 1990,Montgomery served as a professor in the Department of Economics at Michigan State University. In 1990,he was appointed at the rank of associate professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Maryland,College Park,where he became a full professor in 1992. From 1997 to 1999 Montgomery served as chief economist of the United States Department of Labor in the administration of President Bill Clinton. From 2000 to 2001,he served as Deputy Secretary of Labor,the second highest position in that department. From 2003 to 2009,he served as dean of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the University of Maryland,College Park. [3] [4]
In late 2008,after the election of Barack Obama as President of the United States,Montgomery led the presidential transition team concerned with the Department of Labor. [5] In February 2009,he was named by Obama to the Presidential Task Force on the Auto Industry. On March 30,2009,Obama appointed Montgomery as Director of Recovery for Auto Communities and Workers. This position oversees the health of the struggling United States automobile industry as a result of the Automotive industry crisis of 2008–2009. [4]
On August 15,2010,Montgomery became the Dean of the Georgetown Public Policy Institute at Georgetown University. [6] In 2011,Montgomery was elected as a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration. [7]
In April 2017,Montgomery was announced as the ninth president of Western Michigan University. He began his tenure as president on August 1,2017. [8] In his inaugural address,Montgomery echoed an expression used during the era of WMU's second president Paul Sangren,"That All May Learn," and noted the University's commitment to excellence and inclusion. [9] During his first year at WMU,Montgomery has spoken at length on the need for transformational change. His 2017 and 2018 State of the University addresses detail this philosophy and the specific initiatives proposed to meet that goal. [10] [11]
On September 12,2024,Montgomery announced that he would be retiring as president on June 30,2025. [12]
Montgomery married in 1994 and has three children. [1] His father was pioneering labor historian David Montgomery.

Harry W. Lawson Ice Arena and Gabel Natatorium is a 3,667-seat multi-purpose arena,and adjacent natatorium in Kalamazoo,Michigan,located on the far Southwest corner of Western Michigan University's main campus. The arena is a single-level,horseshoe-style arena with a concourse at the top. It is home to the Western Michigan Broncos men's ice hockey team,the WMU men's ice hockey club team,and the WMU synchronized skating club team. The arena is named after Harry W. Lawson,the founder of the hockey program at Western Michigan University. The Gabel Natatorium contains an olympic size swimming pool,diving facility,and is home to the WMU Swimming and Diving Club team.
Alan Bennett Krueger was an American economist who was the James Madison Professor of Political Economy at Princeton University and Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. He served as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy,nominated by President Barack Obama,from May 2009 to October 2010,when he returned to Princeton. He was nominated in 2011 by Obama as chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers,and served in that office from November 2011 to August 2013.
The McCourt School of Public Policy is one of eleven constituent schools of Georgetown University in Washington,D.C. The McCourt School offers master's degrees in public policy,international development policy,policy management,data science for public policy,and policy leadership as well as administers several professional certificate programs and houses fifteen affiliated research centers. The McCourt School has twenty-one full-time faculty members,ten visiting faculty members,more than one-hundred adjunct faculty members and approximately 450 enrolled students across the various degree and executive education programs.

John M. Dunn was the eighth president of Western Michigan University. Dunn earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Northern Illinois University,and he earned an Ed.D. in physical education from Brigham Young University.
Elson S. Floyd was an American educator who served as the 10th president of the four-campus Washington State University from May 21,2007 to June 20,2015. Floyd was also the first African American to be named president of Washington State University. Floyd also served as president of the University of Missouri System and president of Western Michigan University. Floyd was the Chairman of the Pac-12 CEO Group.
Daniel K. Tarullo is an American law professor who served as a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors from 2009 to 2017. Tarullo concurrently served as the chairman of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC). In February 2017,he announced his intention to resign from the Board of Governors in early April 2017.

Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) is a private medical school in Kalamazoo,Michigan. WMed was established in 2012 and confers the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree,as well as Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences degree and the Master of Science in Medical Engineering degree. WMed is a collaboration between Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo's two teaching hospitals,Ascension Borgess and Bronson Healthcare. The inaugural class of 54 students started in August 2014.

She is the first African American woman and first woman of color to lead any of the 12 regional Federal Reserve Banks.
