Edward Bierstone FRSC (born December 21, 1946) is a Canadian mathematician at the University of Toronto who specializes in singularity theory, analytic geometry, and differential analysis.
He received his B.Sc. from the University of Toronto and his Ph.D. at Brandeis University in 1972. He was a visiting scholar at the Institute for Advanced Study in the summer of 1973. [1] He served as the Director of the Fields Institute from 2009 to 2013. [2]
Bierstone was elected a member of the Royal Society of Canada in 1992 and, together with Pierre Milman, received the Jefferey Williams Prize in 2005. In 2012 he became a fellow of the American Mathematical Society. [3] In 2018 the Canadian Mathematical Society listed him in their inaugural class of fellows. [4]
Robert Phelan Langlands, is a Canadian mathematician. He is best known as the founder of the Langlands program, a vast web of conjectures and results connecting representation theory and automorphic forms to the study of Galois groups in number theory, for which he received the 2018 Abel Prize. He was an emeritus professor and occupied Albert Einstein's office at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, until 2020 when he retired.
The Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) is an independent center for theoretical research and intellectual inquiry located in Princeton, New Jersey. It has served as the academic home of internationally preeminent scholars, including J. Robert Oppenheimer, Albert Einstein, Hermann Weyl, John von Neumann, and Kurt Gödel, many of whom had emigrated from Europe to the United States.
Robertus Henricus "Robbert" Dijkgraaf FRSE is a Dutch theoretical physicist, mathematician and string theorist, and the current Minister of Education, Culture and Science in the Netherlands. From July 2012 until his inauguration as minister in January 2022, he had been the director and Leon Levy professor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey, and a tenured professor at the University of Amsterdam.
John Lighton Synge was an Irish mathematician and physicist, whose seven-decade career included significant periods in Ireland, Canada, and the USA. He was a prolific author and influential mentor, and is credited with the introduction of a new geometrical approach to the theory of relativity.

The University of Toronto Department of Mathematics is an academic department within the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto. It is located at the university's main campus at the Bahen Centre for Information Technology.
George Arthur Elliott is a Canadian mathematician specializing in operator algebras, K-theory, and non-commutative geometry. He is a professor at the University of Toronto Department of Mathematics, and holds a Canada Research Chair. He is best known for his work on classifying C*-algebras, both for initiating their classification and highlighting the importance of K-theory in this respect.

Vijaya Kumar Murty is an Indo-Canadian mathematician working primarily in number theory. He is a professor at the University of Toronto and is the Director of the Fields Institute.
The Fields Medal Symposium is an annual event that honours one of the Fields Medal recipients from the most recent International Congress of Mathematicians. The symposium is jointly endorsed by the International Mathematical Union and the Fields Institute for Mathematical Sciences. The idea was conceived in preparation for the International Congress of Mathematicians 2010 (ICM2010) in Hyberdad, India. Professor Edward Bierstone of the University of Toronto was the director of the institute during the inaugural symposium in October 2012. All symposiums take place at the Fields Institute in Toronto, Canada. The symposia include mathematical activity that explore work related to the honoured Fields Medallist. They will include public lectures meant to spark interest in mathematics including public lectures and events for students.
