The Filmfare Best Comedian Award was given by Filmfare as part of its annual Filmfare Awards for Hindi films, to recognise an actor who had delivered an outstanding performance in a comic role.
Judwaa (transl. Twins) is a 1997 Indian Hindi-language action comedy film, directed by David Dhawan, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and starring Salman Khan, Karishma Kapoor and Rambha with Kader Khan, Dalip Tahil, Shakti Kapoor, Deepak Shirke, Anupam Kher, Satish Shah and Mukesh Rishi in supporting roles. Released on 7 February 1997, the film was successful at the box office. The film is a remake of the Telugu film Hello Brother (1994), which in turn is inspired from the Hong Kong action comedy film Twin Dragons (1992) starring Jackie Chan.

Saaransh is a 1984 Indian Hindi drama film directed by Mahesh Bhatt, starring Anupam Kher, Rohini Hattangadi, Madan Jain, Nilu Phule, Suhas Bhalekar and Soni Razdan. It is about an elderly Maharashtrian couple living in Mumbai who come to terms with the loss of their only son. This was the screen debut of Anupam Kher. The film had music by Ajit Verman and lyrics by Vasant Dev. It was produced and distributed by Rajshri Productions. It was chosen as India's official entry for the 1985 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and was not nominated.

Taaqatwar is a 1989 Indian Hindi-language action film directed by David Dhawan and starring Sanjay Dutt, Govinda, Neelam Kothari and Anita Raj. It was a box office failure. Govinda worked with David Dhawan for the first time in Taaqatwar. He then formed a successful collaboration with David Dhawan and went on to act in 17 movies directed by him, most of which were comedy films and were successful. David Dhawan paired actor Sanjay Dutt and Govinda together for a further three successful films much later on in his career.
