El Castillo del Terror (2019) (Spanish for "The Tower of Terror") iwas a major professional wrestling event, the eleventh annual El Castillo del Terror event, scripted and produced by the International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG) that took place on October 31, 2019. IWRG has held their Castillo del Terror show since 2005, usually late in the year. As with the majority of the IWRG shows it will take place at Arena Naucalpan in Naucalpan, State of Mexico, the home of IWRG. The main event is the eponymous Castillo del Terror Steel cage match where the last person eliminated would be forced to unmasked per the Lucha de Apuestas , or "bet match", stipulation.

Contents

In the main event, 12 men (Ave Rex, Dragón Bane, Imposible, El Hijo de Canis Lupus, Dinamic Black, Toxin, Aramis, Relámpago, Capo del Norte, Tortuga Leo, Ángel Tormenta and Death Metal) risked their mask in a steel cage match where the last wrestler remaining will be forced to unmask. In the end Ángel Tormenta was the last man in the cage as El Hijo de Canis Lupus climbed out. Ángel Tormenta unmasked afterwards and revealed that his real name was Jorge Alberto Flores Perez and he had been a professional wrestler for three years at that point. The show also featured a Super Libre match between Los Traumas (Trauma I and Trauma II) and Los Lucha Brothers (Penta el 0M (Rey Fénix), in which Los Lucha Brothers won by disqualification.

Production

Background

Starting as far back as at least 2002, the Mexican wrestling promotion International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG; Sometimes referred to as Grupo Internacional Revolución in Spanish) has held several annual events where the main event was a multi-man steel cage match where the last wrestler left in the cage would be forced to either remove their wrestling mask or have their hair shaved off under Lucha de Apuestas , or "bet match", rules. From 2005 IWRG has promoted a fall show, around the Mexican Day of the Death, under the name El Castillo del Terror ("The Tower of Terror"), [2] to distinguish it from other Steel cage matches held throughout the year such as the IWRG Guerra del Golfo ("Gulf War"), [3] IWRG Guerra de Sexos ("War of the Sexes"), [4] or IWRG Prisión Fatal ("Deadly Prison") shows. [5] The Castillo del Terror shows, as well as the majority of the IWRG shows in general, are held in "Arena Naucalpan", owned by the promoters of IWRG and their main arena. The 2019 Castillo del Terror show will be the 15th year in a row that IWRG has promoted a show under that name.

Storylines

The El Castillo del Terror event featured six professional wrestling matches with different wrestlers involved in pre-existing scripted feuds, plots and storylines. Wrestlers portrayed themselves as either heels (referred to as rudos in Mexico, those that portray the "bad guys") or faces (técnicos in Mexico, the "good guy" characters) as they followed a series of tension-building events, which culminated in wrestling matches. As Oficial AK-47 he is part of a group called Los Oficiales that has worked for International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG) since 2007. The team held the record for the longest reigning Distrito Federal Trios Champions and are the most successful holders of the IWRG Intercontinental Trios Championship, holding it longer than any other trios team and having defended it more times than any previous champions have. AK-47 is also a former one-time IWRG Intercontinental Middleweight Champion. He previously worked as the enmascarado charactersSureño de la Muerte and Black Stone. He is named after the AK-47 assault rifle. Wrestling most his career under a mask, Pardo's true identity was revealed on December 22, 2011, when he lost his mask in a match against Trauma I.

Antheus Ortiz Chávez, better known under the ring name Hijo de Pirata Morgan is a Mexican luchador, or professional wrestler currently working for the Mexican professional wrestling promotion International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG) portraying a tecnico wrestling character. Hijo de Pirata Morgan's real name was not a matter of public record until March 16, 2013 where he lost his wrestling mask and had to reveal his real name. This is often the case with masked wrestlers in Mexico where their private lives are kept a secret from the wrestling fans while they are masked. He is legitimately the son of professional wrestler Pedro Ortiz Villanueva, better known as Pirata Morgan, and not a storyline family relationship as it sometimes the case in Lucha Libre.

Golden Magic is a Mexican luchador enmascarado, or masked professional wrestler currently working for the Mexican professional wrestling promotions Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA), where he is a former AAA World Trios Champion.

Sergio Marca is a Mexican luchador, or professional wrestler known as Carta Brava Jr., currently working for the Mexican professional wrestling promotion Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA) portraying a rudo wrestling character. He is the son of the original Carta Brava and actually has a brother who uses the same name and mask, working as "Carta Brava Jr." as well. His name is Spanish for Fight Card.

Héctor Juan López Vieyra is a Mexican luchador who is best known for his time with International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG) under the ring name Canis Lupus. He has previously worked under the ring name Comando Negro from 2009 to 2012. Near the end of 2012, López took over the Canis Lupus character when the first wrestler to use the name was replaced by IWRG. "Canis Lupus" is Latin for wolf, something that was reflected in the mask, that he wore prior to September 2016, which is adorned with stylized wolf features such as ears.

For the 2019 event Bombero Infernal, Cerebro Negro, Cocolores, Coco Verde, Oficial 911, Oficial AK-47, and Oficial Fierro all wore their masks again after having lost Luchas de Apuestas, or "bet matches", in the past and thus lost the rights to wear their mask. The 2019 event also homage to Vampiro and his long career.
