Hawaiis 2nd congressional district U.S. House district for Hawaii

Hawaii's 2nd congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Hawaii. It is currently represented by Kai Kahele, who succeeded Tulsi Gabbard following the 2020 election. The district encompasses all rural and most suburban areas of Oahu/Honolulu County, as well as the entire state outside of Oahu. Besides Honolulu, the district includes the counties of Kauai, Maui, Kalawao, and Hawaii. The district spans 331 miles. The most populous community entirely within the district is Hilo. Major segments of the economy include tourism, ranching, and agriculture.

Mike Gabbard Samoan American politician

Gerald Michael Gabbard is a Samoan American politician, serving as a Democratic member of the Hawaii State Senate for District 20 since 2006. Gabbard rose to prominence for efforts to prevent same-sex marriage in Hawai'i by passing a 1998 amendment to the Constitution of Hawaii to give the state legislature "the power to reserve marriage to opposite-sex couples" under the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). Gabbard, who was born in American Samoa, is the first person of Samoan descent to serve in the Hawaii Senate.

Charles Djou Former U.S. Representative from Hawaii

Charles Kong Djou is an American politician who served as the U.S. Representative for Hawaii's 1st congressional district from 2010 to 2011. As a member of the Republican Party, Djou won his congressional seat in a May 2010 special election where the Democratic Party vote was split between several candidates, but he was defeated in the general election in November after the Democratic primary provided a single opponent. Djou, who was previously in the Hawaii House of Representatives and the Honolulu City Council, was the first Thai American of any party and the first Chinese American Republican to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. In June 2016, Djou entered the race for Mayor of Honolulu, which he lost 48% to 52% to Democratic Party incumbent Kirk Caldwell. Djou left the Republican Party in March 2018. As of 2021, Djou is the last Republican to represent Hawaii in Congress.

Tulsi Gabbard American politician and former U.S. Representative from Hawaii

Tulsi Gabbard is an American politician and United States Army Reserve officer who served as the U.S. Representative for Hawaii's 2nd congressional district from 2013 to 2021. Elected in 2012, she was the first Hindu member of Congress and also the first Samoan-American voting member of Congress. In early February 2019 she announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination in the 2020 United States presidential election.

The 2012 United States House of Representatives elections in Hawaii were held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 to elect the two U.S. Representatives from the state, one from each of the state's two congressional districts. The elections coincided with the elections of other federal and state offices, including a quadrennial presidential election and an election for the United States Senate. Primary elections were held on August 11, 2012.

The 2016 United States Senate election in Hawaii was held November 8, 2016, concurrently with the 2016 U.S. presidential election as well as other elections to the United States Senate and House of Representatives and various state and local elections. The primaries were held August 13.

Bob McDermott American politician

Bob McDermott is an American politician and a Republican member of the Hawaii House of Representatives since November 6, 2012 representing District 40. McDermott previously served three terms in the Hawaii House of Representatives from 1996 until 2002, but left to run to represent Hawaii's 2nd congressional district in the United States House of Representatives.

Ryan I. Yamane is an American politician and a Democratic member of the Hawaii House of Representatives since January 2005 representing District 37.

Sharon E. Har is an American politician and a Democratic member of the Hawaii House of Representatives since January 2013 representing District 42. Har served consecutively from January 2007 until 2013 in the District 40 seat. In February 2021, Har was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated. Har told officers "Black Lives Matter" in an attempt to salvage her desire to run for Governor of Hawai'i, according to police body camera footage.

Rida T.R. Cabanilla Arakawa is an American politician and nurse who has served as a Democratic member of the Hawaii House of Representatives from 2018-2020, representing District 41. Cabanilla also formerly represented District 41 in the House from 2012-2014 and District 42 from 2004-2012.

Scott Y. Nishimoto is an American politician and a Democratic member of the Hawaii House of Representatives since January 2003 representing District 21.

Kaialiʻi Kahele is an American politician, educator, and commercial pilot serving as the U.S. Representative for Hawaii's 2nd congressional district since 2021. From 2016 to 2020, he served in the Hawaii Senate from the 1st district. Kahele is a member of the Democratic Party and the son of Hawaii Senate member Gil Kahele.
