Emily Pogorelc (born July 1996) [1] is an American operatic soprano. She is a member of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, and has performed leading roles internationally.
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin [2] Pogorelc studied at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, graduating in 2018. [2] She won the Ginette Theano Prize for Most Promising Talent at the first Glyndebourne Festival Opera competition in 2018. [3] Pogorelc made her debut as Cunegonde in Bernstein's Candide at the Washington National Opera. [2] She then took part in the Mozart Académie of the Aix-en-Provence Festival, and at the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme [2] of the Aldeburgh Festival. [2] She performed at the Glimmerglass Festival, as Romilda in Handel's Serse as Berenice in Rossini's L'occasione fa il ladro , [4] and as Johanna in Sondheim's Sweeney Todd . [2] Pogorelc was a member of the Ryan Opera Center at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, where she covered Ilia in Mozart's Idomeneo , Zerlina in Don Giovanni , and the Voice of the Forest Bird and Woglinde in Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen . Pogorelc became a member of the Bavarian State Opera in 2020, where her first role was Zaunschlüpfer in Die Vögel by Walter Braunfels, followed by Gretel in Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel , Sofia in Rossini's Il signor Bruschino , Pamina in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Adina in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore , Musetta in Puccini's La bohème , and Ilia in Idomeneo by W. A. Mozart. [4] She appeared as Cherubino in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro as part of the 2021 Munich Opera Festival. [5] [6] She performed there as Lauretta in a 2021 revival of a 2017 production of Puccini's Gianni Schicchi , directed by Lotte de Beer and conducted Bertrand de Billy, alongside Ambrogio Maestri in the title role. [7] She won a third prize at the Operalia competition in 2021. [8] [9] In 2023, she made her house and role debut as Amina in Vincenzo Bellini's La sonnambula at Semperoper Dresden, in a new production by Rolando Villazón. [10]

José Francisco Araiza Andrade is a Mexican operatic tenor and lied singer who has sung as soloist in leading concert halls and in leading tenor operatic roles in the major opera houses of Europe and North America during the course of a lengthy career. Born in Mexico City, he studied singing at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música de México and later in Germany, with Mozartian tenor Richard Holm, and lieder interpretation with Erik Werba. He made his operatic debut in 1970 in Mexico City as First Prisoner in Beethoven's Fidelio. Araiza initially came to international prominence singing in Mozart and Rossini operas, but in the 1980s broadened his repertoire to include Italian and French lyric tenor roles and Wagnerian roles such as Lohengrin and Walther von Stolzing. He was made a Kammersänger of the Vienna State Opera in 1988. Now retired from the opera stage, he teaches singing and serves on the juries of several international singing competitions.

She has performed at major opera houses, especially as Mozart's Susanna and Zdenka in Arabella, and at the Bayreuth Festival. She is also known as a lieder singer with a broad repertoire including contemporary music, performed at Wigmore Hall in London among others.

A member of the ensemble of the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden since 2015, she has performed leading roles such as Cherubino in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Rosina in Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Bizet's Carmen, and the title role in Der Rosenkavalier by Richard Strauss. Her concert repertoire includes Oskar Gottlieb Blarr's Jesus-Passion and Verdi's Requiem.
