John Anthony Quitman was an American lawyer,politician,and soldier. As President of the Mississippi Senate,he served one month as Acting Governor of Mississippi as a Whig. He was elected Governor in 1850,as a Democrat,and served from January 10,1850,until his resignation on February 3,1851,shortly after his arrest for violating U.S. neutrality laws. He was strongly pro-slavery and a leading Fire-Eater.

William Peters Hepburn was an American Civil War officer and an eleven-term Republican congressman from Iowa's now-obsolete 8th congressional district,serving from 1881 to 1887,and from 1893 to 1909. According to historian Edmund Morris,"Hepburn was the House's best debater,admired for his strength of character and legal acumen." As chair of one of the most powerful committees in Congress,he guided or sponsored many statutes regulating businesses,including most notably the Hepburn Act of 1906. The Hepburn Act authorized the U.S. Interstate Commerce Commission to require railroads to charge "just and reasonable" rates.

Tongue served as Congressman from 1897 to 1903 representing Oregon's 1st congressional district.

He was a lawyer and judge who served as a U.S. representative from Illinois from 1865–1869 and continued to practice law when he moved to Colorado in 1870 where he was appointed to compile the state's statutes. Bromwell was initiated into freemasonry in 1854,and he became the Grand Master of Illinois in 1864. When he moved to Colorado he became that state's first Honorary Grand Master. He developed the Free,and Accepted Architects,a new rite for Freemasonry which sought to teach its initiates the lost work of the craft embodied in Bromwell's Geometrical system. After his death,the Grand Lodge of Colorado published his work on the esoteric nature of Sacred geometry in the book Restorations of Masonic Geometry and Symbolry.
