Sanag is an administrative region (gobol) in north eastern Somaliland. Sanaag has a long coastline facing the Gulf of Aden to the north, and is bordered by the region of Sahil to the west, Sool to the south and Somalia to the east. The region is disputed by the self-declared Republic of Somaliland and Puntland, a Federal Member State of Somalia. Its capital city is Erigavo. Sanaag is the largest region of Somaliland, accounting for 35% of Somaliland's total land area.
Togdheer is an administrative region (gobol) in central Somaliland. Togdheer is bordered by Maroodi Jeex to the west, Saaxil to the north, Sanaag to the northeast, Sool to the east and Ethiopia to the south. Its capital is Burao.
Erigavo, also spelled as Erigabo, is the capital and largest city of the Sanaag region of Somaliland.

Egal International Airport, is an airport in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland, named after Somaliland's second president Muhammad Haji Ibrahim Egal, the airport underwent major renovations in 2012–2013. In 2002 the airport handled 85,800 passengers & 4,300 tons of cargo on a total of 6,120 landings.

Ismail Haji Nour is a Somaliland politician and is the current Mayor of Erigavo, the capital of Sanaag region of Somaliland, since October 2003. A well known businessman, he was imprisoned several times during the rule of Siad Barre for alleged dissidence. He is one of the longest serving mayors in Somaliland and the only mayor who has been re-elected.
