Las Anod International Airport( ICAO : HCMP) is an airstrip northwest of the city of Las Anod, the capital of SSC-Khaatumo and Sool region in Somalia.
In the 2010s, controversies have occurred at Las Anod airport, including over the importation of Khat, a leaf stimulant, [3] and fighting between Dhulbahante subclans. [4]
The airport is located at the outskirts of the city of Las Anod, roughly 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) in a northwesterly direction in the locality of Tifafleh. [5]
Sool is an administrative region (gobol) in eastern Somaliland/north western Somalia. It borders Togdheer to the west, Sanaag to the north, Ethiopia to the south and Nugal, Bari to the east. Its capital city is Las Anod. The region is disputed by the self-declared Republic of Somaliland and SSC-Khatumo, a Federal Member State of Somalia. In an 1878 report to the Royal Geographical Society of Great Britain, Johann Maria Hildebrandt noted upon visiting the area that "we know from ancient authors that these districts, at present so desert, were formerly populous and civilised[...] I also discovered ancient ruins and rock-inscriptions both in pictures and characters[...] These have hitherto not been deciphered." These etchings are found together with paintings, which are estimated to be 2,500 years old.

The Las Anod conflict is an ongoing armed conflict between the Somaliland National Army and the SSC-Khatumo forces of the Dhulbahante in Las Anod, the capital of the Sool region. Fighting erupted on February 6 after Somaliland security forces held a violent crackdown on civil protests. On February 8, the supreme Garad of Dhulbahante, Garad Jama Garad Ali, declared an intent to secede and reunite with the Federal Government of Somalia.
