The Ijaw people, also known as the Ịjọ people, are an ethnic group found in the Niger Delta region in Nigeria, with primary population clusters in Bayelsa, Delta, and Rivers. They also have significant population clusters in Edo, Lagos, Ondo. and small parts of Akwa Ibom.
Ondo State is a state in southwestern Nigeria. It was created on 3 February 1976 from the former Western State. Ondo borders Ekiti State to the north, Kogi State to the northeast for 45 km, Edo State to the east, Delta State to the southeast for 36 km, Ogun State to the southwest for 179 km, Osun State to the northwest for 77 km, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. The state's capital is Akure, the former capital of the ancient Akure Kingdom. The State includes mangrove-swamp forest near the Bight of Benin.
The Niger Delta is the delta of the Niger River sitting directly on the Gulf of Guinea on the Atlantic Ocean in Nigeria. It is located within nine coastal southern Nigerian states, which include: all six states from the South South geopolitical zone, one state (Ondo) from South West geopolitical zone and two states from South East geopolitical zone.

The Warri Crisis was a series of conflicts in Delta State, Nigeria between 1997 and 2003 between the Itsekiri, the Ijaw ethnic groups. Over 200,000 people were displaced by the Warri conflict between 1999 and 2006. Over 700,000 people were displaced during this period by violence in Delta State overall.

The Gbaran tribe of the Ijaw people lives along Taylor Creek in central Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Gbarain settlements include: Okotiama, Polaku, Obunagha, Ogboloma, Nedugo, Agbia, kumboama, Okolobiri, Koroama, Ayama, Tuniama and Asaingbene. Okotiama is the senior community. The close proximity of Gbaran villages along Taylor Creek has helped them maintain their shared cultural traditions. The clan god is Gbaran Ziba.
Southern Ijaw is a Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Southern part of Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Oporoma in the north of the area at 4°48′17″N6°04′44″E. The area has a coastline of approximately 60 km on the Bight of Benin.

Irele is a local government area in Ondo State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Ode-Irele. It was originally part of the old Ikale LGA, which was split into Irele and Okitipupa LGAs. It has an area of 939.6 square kilometres (363 sq mi) and had a population of 144,136 at the 2006 census.
Ìlàje is a Local Government Area in Ondo State, South-West Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Igbokoda. The Ilajes are a distinct migratory coastal linguistic group of Yoruba peoples spread along the coastal belts of Ondo, Ogun, Lagos and Delta states and originally made up of four geo-political entities, namely: Ode Ugbo, Ode Mahin, Ode Etikan and Aheri. While most towns and villages in the Mahin kingdom are distributed on arable lands, the towns and villages in the other three polities of Ugbo, Aheri and Etikan kingdoms are spread out along the beaches and swampy terrain of the Atlantic Ocean coast.
Ogu–Bolo is a local government area (LGA) in Rivers State, Nigeria, with its administrative headquarters in the town of Ogu. Situated in the eastern part of the Niger Delta, the Ogu-Bolo people are of Ijaw descent and represent one of the 11 local government areas in Rivers State with Ijaw heritage.
