Etlingera heyniana is a monocotyledonous plant species first described by Theodoric Valeton ^{[3] [4] [5]} and given its current name by Rosemary Margaret Smith. ^[6] Etlingera heyniana is part of the genus Etlingera and the family Zingiberaceae. ^{[7] [8]}

The range of the species is Java. ^[7] No subspecies are listed in the Catalog of Life. ^[7] It was last observed in 1921 and assessed as extinct by the IUCN in 2019. ^[1]
