Eugene S. Clarke (born April 4,1956) is a Republican former member of the Mississippi State Senate who resides in Hollandale in Washington County in western Mississippi.
Clarke was born in Greenville,Mississippi. [3] He graduated from Mississippi State University at Starkville,at which he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. [3]
An accountant,Clarke is married to the former Paula Watkins. [3] They have three children. [3] He is a Methodist. [3]
The 1982 United States Senate elections were held on November 2,1982. They were elections for the United States Senate following Republican gains in 1980. A total of four seats changed hands between parties,and the lone independent,Senator Harry Byrd Jr.,retired. Democrats made a net gain of one seat in the elections. A special election was held in Washington state in 1983.

Girstle Jefferson Higginbotham,known as Dutch Higginbotham was an American politician in the state of Alabama. In the House,he was chairman of the House Judiciary Committee from 1986 to 1994. His entire tenure in the Legislature he was a Democrat. Higginbotham was elected to the Alabama Board of Education in 1994 also as a Democrat. During that term he switched to the Republican Party and was re-elected as a member of the GOP. Born in Calhoun City,Mississippi,he was the son of C.F. and Mary Alice Higginbotham. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War,having served in the U.S. Army Reserve,reaching the rank of Colonel. He died at his residence in Opelika,Alabama in 2010 and was buried at Garden Hills Cemetery.
