United States Range

The United States Range is one of the most northern mountain ranges in the world and of the Arctic Cordillera and is surpassed only by the Challenger Mountains to the northwest. The range is located on the northeastern region of Ellesmere Island in Nunavut, Canada and is part of the Innuitian Mountains. The highest mountain in the range is Mount Eugene. The British Empire Range is immediately to the west of the United States Range.

Calapooya Mountains

The Calapooya Mountains are a mountain range in Lane and Douglas counties of southwestern Oregon in the United States. The range runs for approximately 60 miles (97 km) west from the Cascade Range between Eugene on the north and Roseburg on the south.

Mount Eugene is the highest mountain of the United States Range on Ellesmere Island. Originally named "Mount Arthur Eugene" in 1883 by the States Army Signal Service during their Lady Franklin Bay expedition.

The Colorado crime family, also known as the Smaldone crime family, Denver crime family, or Denver Mafia, was an Italian-American organized crime syndicate based in Pueblo and Denver, Colorado. Pete and Sam Carlino’s bootlegging organization was the foundation of the Denver Mob, which was later taken over by Giuseppe “Little Caesar” Roma. Roma’s organization evolved into the modern Denver branch of the La Cosa Nostra of which is known today as the Smaldone crime family. Roma expanded their criminal operations into extortion, loan sharking, drugs, bookmaking and more. It is believed by federal authorities that the Denver Mafia went defunct in the 2000s after the death of Clarence Smaldone, however evidence suggests that they still have a small but significant presence in the Colorado state, particularly in mountain towns.

Calming the storm

Calming the storm is one of the miracles of Jesus in the Gospels, reported in Matthew 8:23–27, Mark 4:35–41, and Luke 8:22–25. This episode is distinct from Jesus' walk on water, which also involves a boat on the lake and appears later in the narrative.

Van Reeth Glacier is a tributary glacier about 20 nautical miles (37 km) long, draining westward to Scott Glacier between Mounts Blackburn and Bowlin, in the Queen Maud Mountains. It was discovered in December 1934 by the Byrd Antarctic Expedition geological party under Quin Blackburn, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Commander Eugene W. Van Reeth, a pilot with U.S. Navy Squadron VX-6 in Antarctica during Operation Deep Freeze 1966, 1967 and 1968, and squadron commander in 1969. Later in his career, Commander Van Reeth was promoted to captain, and eventually became the commanding officer of Operation Deep Freeze Task Force 43 in the 1970s.

Battle of Tarvis (1809)

The Battle of Tarvis from 16 to 17 May 1809, the Storming of the Malborghetto Blockhouse from 15 to 17 May 1809, and the Storming of the Predil Blockhouse from 15 to 18 May saw the Franco-Italian army of Eugène de Beauharnais attacking Austrian Empire forces under Albert Gyulai. Eugène crushed Gyulai's division in a pitched battle near Tarvisio, then an Austrian town known as Tarvis. At nearby Malborghetto Valbruna and Predil Pass, small garrisons of Grenz infantry heroically defended two forts before being overwhelmed by sheer numbers. The Franco-Italian capture of the key mountain passes allowed their forces to invade Austrian Kärnten during the War of the Fifth Coalition. Tarvisio is located in far northeast Italy, near the borders of both Austria and Slovenia.

The Mountain View Open was a golf tournament on the PGA Tour. It was played only one year, 1964, at the Mountain View Country Club in Corona, California. The tournament was won by Jack McGowan, his only PGA Tour win, by four strokes over R. H. Sikes.

Elijah Bristow American pioneer and Oregon settler

Elijah Bristow (1788–1872) was the first white settler to stake a claim and build a permanent cabin in 1846 in the upper Willamette Valley, in what is now Lane County, Oregon, United States. He and his wife Susannah Gabbert Bristow established the first church and donated land for the first school in Pleasant Hill.

Statue of Eugene Talmadge

The Eugene Talmadge statue is a public monument located on the grounds of the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta, Georgia. Designed by Steffen Thomas, the statue was unveiled in 1949 and depicts Georgia Governor Eugene Talmadge. The statue has been the subject of recent controversy given Talmadge's white supremacist and racist views.
