Moths comprise a group of insects related to butterflies, belonging to the order Lepidoptera. Most species of moth are nocturnal, but there are also crepuscular and diurnal species.

Inoue synonymised this species with Eupithecia rubridorsata in 2000. Further research concluded that it is in fact a good species.
