The Bangla Academy is the official regulatory body of the Bengali language in Bangladesh. It is an autonomous institution funded by the Government of Bangladesh that fosters the Bengali language, literature and culture, works to develop and implement national language policy and conducts original research in Bengali. Established in 1955, it is located in the Burdwan House in Shahbagh, Dhaka, within the grounds of the University of Dhaka and Suhrawardy Udyan. The Bangla Academy hosts the annual Ekushey Book Fair.

The awards were first presented in 1998 and since then the awards are given every year at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC).

She began her acting career after winning Lux Channel I Superstar, (2009) a Bangladeshi beauty pageant. Her success in the pageant opened doors for her acting career. Mehazabien rose to prominence after featuring in a television commercial for Banglalink, a mobile phone operator, which brought her to the limelight. She made her debut in the television drama "Tumi Thako Shindhu Pare," which was broadcast on ATN Bangla. Since then, she has starred in several popular dramas such as "Boro Chele", "Chompa House", "Buker Ba Pashe", "Alo", “Lota Audio", “Chirokal Aaj”, “ Kajoler Din Ratri”. Mehazabien is widely recognized for her versatility in acting and has received numerous awards and accolades for her performances. Her notable awards include the Meril Prothom Alo Awards - 2017, 2018, 2019,2021, CJFB Performance Award-2012, 2013, 2014, 2019, 2020 and 2021. In 2018, she received the Babisas Award for her performance in the play Sonali Danar Chil. Bangladesh Police Women Network (BPWN) honoured Mehazabien Chowdhury for her drama, “Alo”, where she played the character of a sergeant.
Zahid Hasan is a Bangladeshi film, television and stage actor. He has been working as an actor in the show business arena of Bangladesh since the 1990s. He is also a TV commercial model. He was awarded Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in the film Srabon Megher Din (1999).
Syed Hasan Imam is an actor, film director, television director and cultural personality in Bangladesh. He earned Ekushey Padak (1999), Independence Day Award (2016) and Bangladesh National Film Award for Lifetime Achievement (2014). He was part of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. He became an honorary fellow of Bangla Academy in 2010.
Yeasmin Jahan Tareen, commonly known as Tareen Jahan, is a Bangladeshi actress, model and singer. She is mostly known for her acting career in the television dramas and telefilms. In 1985, she stood first at the reality television competition program Notun Kuri for acting, dancing and storytelling divisions. She won Meril Prothom Alo Awards three times for her roles in Kotha Chhilo Onnorokom (2006), Maya (2007) and Green Velvet (2012).

Megher Pore Megh is a 2004 Bangladeshi Bengali-language feature film directed by Chashi Nazrul Islam. It is an adaptation of the novel Megher Pore Megh by Rabeya Khatun, based on the events of the Bangladesh Liberation War. Produced by Faridur Reza Sagar and Ibne Hasan Khan in the banner of Impress Telefilm. Stars Riaz, Purnima, Mahfuz Ahmed and Shahidul Alam Sachchu, Riaz first time acting a duplicate character in this film such like Sezan and Majid.
Mahfuz Ahmed is a Bangladeshi television and film actor. He is also a television presenter, model and television producer. He won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actor twice for his roles in Laal Sobuj (2005) and Zero Degree (2015).
Srabon Megher Din is a 1999 Bangladeshi drama film based on the novel of Humayun Ahmed. This movie based on a triangle tragic love story set in a classical village of Bangladesh directed by the writer himself. This was the second film directed by Humayun Ahmed and won National Film Award. British Film Institute enlisted this film in the Top 10 Bangladeshi Film (Critics) as a 2002 cultural project on South Asian cinema in 2002.
Ziaul Faruq Apurba is a Bangladeshi model and actor. He usually works in television, but has also appeared in films. He is also a singer.
Tania Akter Brishty is a Bangladeshi model and actress. She is the winner of the second runner-up of the Veet Channel i Competition. Tania debuted in the film Ghasful in 2015. She has also acted in several Bangla TV dramas.

Bizli is a 2018 Bangladeshi superhero film directed by Iftakar Chowdhury, and produced by Bobstar Films. It stars Bobby as the protagonist and Indian actress Satabdi Roy as the antagonist. The film was released at Janata Cinema Hall in Nilphamari on 30 March 2018, then released countrywide on 13 April 2018. It is the first superhero film in Bangladesh to possess an original script and story line.
