Farpoint is a virtual reality first-person shooter video game developed by Impulse Gear and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was released on the PlayStation 4 on May 16, 2017, and received mostly positive reviews.
Farpoint is a virtual reality space adventure set on a hostile alien planet. It can be played with the PS VR Aim Controller. [1] It also features online cooperative play, and includes a single-player campaign. [2]
Farpoint was announced at E3 2016. [3] It was developed by San Francisco-based developer Impulse Gear. A downloadable expansion called Cryo Pack was released on June 27, which featured new maps and levels. [4] A second downloadable content pack called Versus Expansion Pack was released on December 5, which featured two new PvP modes, three new player skins and 15 new weapons, in addition to a progressive XP system. Farpoint received generally positive reviews and has a score of 71% on Metacritic. [17]
IGN awarded it a score of 7.5 out of 10, saying "Fantastic gunplay and freedom of movement sets PSVR's Farpoint apart from most VR shooting galleries." [18] GameSpot awarded it 7 out of 10, saying "Despite shifting gears in surprising ways and extending the life of its gunplay by remixing levels, Farpoint is more like a proof of concept than a game designed to push the envelope on its own terms." [19] Game Informer also awarded it 7 out of 10, saying "Farpoint may not move the needle as a shooter, but it’s a sound VR experience." [20] Destructoid similarly awarded it 7 out of 10, and said "the biggest problem is that all of these technical advancements aren't backed up by a setting that does it justice." [21]
Farpoint sold 17,100 copies within its first week on sale in Japan. [22] It debuted at number two on the UK sales charts, and was the highest-charting VR-required game in the UK. [23]
The game won both the PlayStation VR Award at the PlayStation Awards 2017, and the PlayStation VR Game of the Year award at the Road to VR's 2017 Game of the Year Awards. [24] [25] It was also nominated for "Best PS VR Experience" at PlayStation Blog's Game of the Year Awards. [26]

CCP hf., doing business as CCP Games, is an Icelandic video game developer based in Reykjavík. Novator Partners and General Catalyst had previously collectively owned a majority stake in the company, and in September 2018, CCP was acquired by South Korean video game publisher Pearl Abyss for $425 million. CCP Games is best known for developing Eve Online, which was released in 2003 and has since been maintained.
Marvel Games is the licensing and publishing brand for video games based on Marvel properties, and is also the video game division of Disney Interactive. Before the incorporation of Marvel Games, video games based on Marvel properties released between 1982 and 1985 were handled by Marvel Comics Group, with Marvel video games from 1986 to 1998 being handled by Marvel Entertainment Group, whilst video games based on Marvel properties prior to the incorporation of Marvel Games were handled directly by Marvel Enterprises.
Creative Vault AB is an independent video game developer based in Gothenburg, Sweden. The company was founded by Staffan Langin and Olof Gustafsson in the summer of 2005 with the desire to develop games for multiple platforms. Its first game was Crash Commando (2008), an online shooter for the PlayStation 3. In 2012, Gustafsson left the company, which was renamed Creative Vault Studios. Under the guidance of Langin as sole CEO, the company has worked on several projects with Sony Interactive Entertainment, beginning with the virtual reality port for Hustle Kings in 2016. The following year, the studio collaborated with XDev and Clever Beans on Wipeout Omega Collection, a remaster of Wipeout HD, Wipeout HD Fury, and Wipeout 2048.
2017 saw the release of numerous video games as well as other developments in the video game industry. The Nintendo Switch console was released in 2017, which sold more than 14 million units by the end of the year, exceeding the under-performing Wii U lifetime sales. This has helped to revitalize Nintendo, with the "retro" Super NES Classic Edition console, the refreshed New Nintendo 2DS XL handheld and a strategy for mobile gaming. Microsoft also released the higher-powered Xbox One X targeted for 4K resolutions and virtual reality support.

Thumper is a rhythm game developed and published by Drool and released in October 2016 on Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 4, with optional virtual reality (VR) support for the Oculus, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR headsets. It was later released on the Nintendo Switch in May 2017, the Xbox One in August 2017, iOS in January 2018, Oculus Go in September 2018, Android in February 2019, Oculus Quest in May 2019, and Stadia in November 2019. The game was shown at the Experimental Game Workshop during the 2015 Game Developers Conference.
Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin is a virtual reality adventure game developed by Double Fine Productions. It was released for PlayStation VR in February 2017 and on Microsoft Windows in April 2018. The game's story bridges the events between Psychonauts and Psychonauts 2.
Job Simulator: The 2050 Archives, commonly referred to as simply Job Simulator, is a virtual reality simulation video game developed and published by Owlchemy Labs for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Oculus Quest, [[Oculus Quest 2] and Oculus Quest 3 ,in which players participate in comical approximations of real-world jobs. A sequel, Vacation Simulator, was released in 2019.
Batman: Arkham VR is a virtual reality adventure video game developed by Rocksteady Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 4 and Windows. Based on the DC Comics superhero Batman, it is part of the Batman: Arkham series and the first installment to use virtual reality headsets, allowing players to experience the game world from Batman's perspective. Arkham VR was released worldwide on October 11, 2016, for PlayStation 4 and on April 25, 2017, for Windows for VR headsets.
Wipeout Omega Collection is a 2017 futuristic racing video game compilation co-developed by XDev, Clever Beans and Creative Vault Studios and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 4. It was first released in North America on June 6 2017 and in Europe a day later.
Moss is a virtual reality adventure game developed and published by American video game development studio Polyarc. The game is presented from a blend of first-person and third-person perspectives, with a primary focus on solving puzzles. Moss was released for the PlayStation 4 in February 2018. In June, a PC version featuring high-resolution graphics was released. A PlayStation 5 version was released in February 2023.
Beat Saber is a virtual reality rhythm game developed by two Slovaks Ján Ilavský, Vladimír Hrinčár and published by Czech game developer Beat Games. It takes place in many different surrealistic neon environments and features the player slicing blocks representing musical beats with a pair of brightly-colored sabers. Following an early access release in May 2018, the game was officially released for PlayStation 4 and Windows on May 21, 2019, and supports most virtual reality headsets including HTC Vive, Oculus Quest, Quest 2 and Quest Pro, PlayStation VR, PlayStation VR2, and Valve Index.
Ghost Giant is a virtual reality puzzle game developed and published by Zoink for PlayStation VR and Oculus Quest. It was released for PlayStation VR in April 2019 and Oculus Quest in February 2020.
Astro Bot Rescue Mission is a 2018 platform video game developed by Japan Studio's Team Asobi division and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 4's PlayStation VR headset. It stars a cast of robot characters first introduced in The Playroom, where they appeared as robots that lived inside of the DualShock 4 controller. In the game, the player teams up with Captain Astro and goes on a quest to rescue his lost crew scattered across different worlds. The game received positive reviews from critics, who praised the game's use of the DualShock 4 and its varied level design.
Blood & Truth is a first-person shooter developed by London Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was released on May 28, 2019 for the PlayStation 4's virtual reality headset PlayStation VR.
