Fernando Daniel Rodrigues Almeida (born 11 May 1996), known professionally as Fernando Daniel is a Portuguese singer-songwriter. [1] He won the fourth season of The Voice Portugal in 2016.
Daniel's first experiences with singing were singing at school parties for his friends. [2] He first appeared in the musical industry in 2014, on the Portuguese TV show Factor X , which is the Portuguese version of the worldwide known music show The X Factor . He auditioned on the second edition, alone, and was finally eliminated in the piano phase. However, the judges liked his voice and decided to join him together with Luana Ribeiro, another contestant who was eliminated in the piano phase. Together, they formed the group BABEL, [3] which finally ended 4th place overall at the show. [4]
Later, in 2016, he appeared on the 4th season of The Voice Portugal to try his luck again. In the blind auditions, Daniel sang Adele's "When We Were Young" and all four coaches, Marisa Liz, Mickael Carreira, Aurea, and Anselmo Ralph, turned their chairs for him. Daniel chose to be a part of Team Mickael Carreira. His audition was a huge success worldwide and in the country, beating the record of the most watched audition of The Voice . On YouTube alone, the performance has over 120 million views. [5] He went on to win the show in December, receiving the majority of the public votes. [6]
In 2017, he was invited by the Portuguese composer Henrique Feist to sing his song "Poema a Dois" in Festival da Canção and try to represent Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. [7] He finished in 5th place on the Final. The Grand Finale was eventually won by Salvador Sobral, who sang "Amar Pelos Dois", that ended up winning the contest. [8] [9]
In July 2017, Fernando Daniel released his first original single, "Espera", which was included in the soundtrack for the Portuguese telenovela "A Herdeira". [10] "Espera" was included in his first studio album, Salto, which was released in March 2018. [11]
In 2019, Fernando won the Best Portuguese Act award at the 2019 MTV Europe Music Awards receiving the prize at the live event in Seville. [12]
From 2021 to 2023, he was featured as a coach on the children's version of The Voice Portugal. His first season was the second season in this format, becoming the first The Voice Portugal winner to become a coach. His contestant, Simão Oliveira, won the contest and represented Portugal in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Paris. Fernando was later on selected by RTP1 as the composer of the song. Later that year, it was announced that Fernando would return in 2022 as a coach. In his second season, his contestant, Maria Gil, won the finale, making him the winning coach for two consecutive seasons. [13] In 2023, Fernando returned for season 4, his third season as a coach on The Voice Kids. In the fourth season of the show altogether, Daniel's contestant, Júlia Machado, won the season, making him the winning coach for the third consecutive season. He became the first coach in any variation of the Portuguese version of the show to win more than two consecutive seasons. In 2024, it was revealed that Daniel would not return as a coach for season 5, being replaced by Nininho Vaz Maia.
In 2023, he became a coach on season 11 of the main version of The Voice Portugal, seven years after he won the show. [14] His final contestant, Guilherme Baptista, finished in third place in the season finale. He returned as a coach for season 12 in the fall of 2024. Daniel's artist Rafael Ribeiro won the season, marking Daniel's first win as a coach on the main version of the show. With four wins across all variations of the show, he tied with Marisa Liz as the most winning coach in the show's history. [15]

The Voice is an international reality television singing competition franchise originally created by Dutch producer John de Mol Jr. and Dutch singer Roel van Velzen.
Maria Carolina Martinez Deslandes, known as Carolina Deslandes, is a Portuguese singer and songwriter. In December 2010, she finished as the third-place finalist on the fourth season of Ídolos Portugal. She has released three albums: Carolina Deslandes (2012), Blossom (2016) and Casa (2018). "A Vida Toda" (2017), a single from Casa, reached number nine on the Portuguese Singles Chart and, as of August 2024 its music video has more than 12.8 million views on YouTube.
Portugal participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 with the song "Vida minha" written by Andrej Babić and Carlos Coelho. The song was performed by Filipa Sousa. The Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) organised the national final Festival da Canção 2012 in order to select the Portuguese entry for the 2012 contest in Baku, Azerbaijan. The competition took place on 10 March 2012 where "Vida minha" performed by Filipa Sousa emerged as the winner after achieving the highest score following the combination of votes from twenty regional juries and a public televote.
The Voice Portugal is a Portuguese reality singing competition and local version of The Voice, based on the original The Voice of Holland. The series employs a panel of four coaches who critique the artists' performances, and guide their teams of selected artists through the remainder of the season. They also compete to ensure that their act wins the competition, thus making them the winning coach. The original coaching panel consisted of Rui Reininho, Paulo Gonzo, Mia Rose, and the duo Os Anjos. The current coaching panel, for season 12, features Sara Correia, Fernando Daniel, Sónia Tavares, and Nininho Vaz Maia. In other seasons Mickael Carreira, Marisa Liz, Anselmo Ralph, Aurea, António Zambujo, Diogo Piçarra, Carolina Deslandes and Dino D'Santiago participated as coaches.

"Amar pelos dois" is a song recorded by Portuguese singer Salvador Sobral. The song was written and produced by his sister Luísa Sobral and released for digital download as a single on 10 March 2017 by Sons em Trânsito. It premiered on 19 February of that year, when it was performed during the first semi-final of Festival da Canção 2017.

Luísa Vilar Braamcamp Sobral is a Portuguese singer and songwriter. She came to prominence in 2003 after finishing third in the first season of Ídolos, the Portuguese version of Idols television series. After going on hiatus to attend the Berklee College of Music, she released her debut album, The Cherry on My Cake, in 2011. Presenter Catarina Furtado continues to host the show, and Fábio Lopes also returns as the backstage presenter.
The Voice Kids is the junior version of The Voice Portugal, broadcast on RTP1, with competitors between the ages of seven and fifteen. The first season premiered in 2014, and the show did not come back for a second season until 2021. In April 2019, RTP1 announced a reboot of the show, which was set to premiere in 2020, but ended up being postponed due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
The fourth season of Portuguese The Voice Kids is a talent show broadcast on RTP1, which premiered on 9 April 2023. Carlão and Fernando Daniel returned for their third seasons as coaches, while Bárbara Tinoco returned for her second. In the meantime, Carolina Deslandes was replaced by former The Voice Portugal coach, Aurea. Catarina Furtado continues to host the show, however, Fábio Lopes was replaced by Catarina Maia as the backstage presenter.
