The Voice Portugal

The Voice Kids is the junior version of The Voice Portugal , broadcast on RTP1, with competitors between the ages of seven and fifteen. The first season premiered in 2014, and the show did not come back for a second season until 2021. [1] In April 2019, RTP1 announced a reboot of the show, which was set to premiere in 2020, but ended up being postponed due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

Since 2021, the competition has been used to select the artist that represents Portugal in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

History

The first season premiered on 28 September 2014, with Daniela Mercury, Anselmo Ralph, and Raquel Tavares as coaches, and presented by Mariana Monteiro and Vasco Palmeirim. In April 2019, RTP1 announced a reboot for the kids' version. Starting in 2021, the second season featured a new host, Catarina Furtado, and a coaching panel of four new coaches: Carlão, Fernando Daniel, Carolina Deslandes, and Marisa Liz. The third season premiered on 8 May 2022 with Bárbara Tinoco replacing Liz, while Carlão, Daniel, and Deslandes continued on the show as coaches. The fourth season premiered on 9 April 2023 with Aurea replacing Deslandes. The fifth season premiered on 14 April 2024 with Cuca Roseta and Nininho Vaz Maia replacing Aurea and Daniel, while Carlão and Tinoco continued as coaches.

Seasons' summary

Season 1 (2014)

The first season of the series had three coaches: Anselmo Ralph, fadista Raquel Tavares, and internationally-known Brazilian singer, Daniela Mercury. Premiering on 28 September 2014, Mariana Monteiro and Vasco Palmeirim were the hosts for the season and Rui Maria Pêgo was the backstage host. On 14 December, the season ended with Diogo Garcia from Team Daniela declared as winner.

Season 2 (2021)

The second season of the series had Marisa Liz, hip hop singer Carlão, pop singer Carolina Deslandes, and adults' season four winner Fernando Daniel as coaches. Premiering on 10 January 2021, Catarina Furtado was the host for the season and actress Bárbara Lourenço was the backstage host for the auditions and battles. For the live shows, digital influencer Fábio Lopes replaced Lourenço. During the season finale, on 18 April, Furtado confirmed that the winner would represent Portugal in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021. [2] Simão Oliveira from Team Fernando won the season, and eight months later, represented Portugal with the song "O Rapaz", placing 11th with 101 points. [3]

Season 3 (2022)

The third season of the series had Carlão, Daniel, Deslandes, and debutant Bárbara Tinoco as coaches. Premiering on 8 May 2022, Furtado returned as host and Lopes as the backstage host. On 31 July, 14-year-old Maria Gil from Team Fernando won the season. [4] On 10 August, RTP announced that runner-up Nicolas Alves would represent Portugal in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022, due to Gil being born in November 2007. [5]

Season 4 (2023)

On 3 December 2022, applications for the fourth season of The Voice Kids opened. [6] On 8 January 2023, during a live show of The Voice Portugal's tenth season, it was revealed that Aurea would replace Deslandes on the coaching panel, while Carlão, Daniel, and Tinoco would return. [7] Furtado hosted the show for the third year in a row, while Catarina Maia was in charge of hosting the backstage. American-born Júlia Machado from Team Fernando won the season and represented Portugal in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2023. [8]

Season 5 (2024)

On 15 January 2024, it was confirmed that Carlão and Tinoco would return as coaches for the fifth season. At the same time, it was confirmed that Cuca Roseta and Nininho Vaz Maia would replace Aurea and Daniel. Furtado hosted the show for the fourth year in a row, while Catarina Maia returned for her second year in charge of hosting the backstage. Victoria Nicole from Team Nininho won the season and represented Portugal in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024. She finished in second place, Portugal's highest ever score. [9]

<i>The Voice Portugal</i> Television series

The Voice Portugal is a Portuguese reality singing competition and local version of The Voice, based on the original The Voice of Holland. The series employs a panel of four coaches who critique the artists' performances, and guide their teams of selected artists through the remainder of the season. They also compete to ensure that their act wins the competition, thus making them the winning coach. The original coaching panel consisted of Rui Reininho, Paulo Gonzo, Mia Rose, and the duo Os Anjos. The current coaching panel, for season 12, features Sara Correia, Fernando Daniel, Sónia Tavares, and Nininho Vaz Maia. In other seasons Mickael Carreira, Marisa Liz, Anselmo Ralph, Aurea, António Zambujo, Diogo Piçarra, Carolina Deslandes and Dino D'Santiago participated as coaches.

Portugal participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Há um mar que nos separa" written by Miguel Gameiro. The song was performed by Leonor Andrade. The Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) organised the national final Festival da Canção 2015 in order to select the Portuguese entry for the 2015 contest in Vienna, Austria. After two semi-finals and a final which took place in March 2015, "Há um mar que nos separa" performed by Leonor Andrade emerged as the winner after receiving the most public televotes.

<i>The Voice Portugal</i> season 1 Season of television series

The first season of the Portuguese reality talent show A Voz de Portugal premiered on October 29, 2011 on RTP1. The coaching panel consisted in singer-songwriter Paulo Gonzo, rock duo Anjos, YouTube sensation Mia Rose and GNR lead vocalist Rui Reininho. Catarina Furtado was the show host, and Diogo Beja was the season's backstage host, also known as Repórter V.

Portugal was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2003 with the song "Deixa-me sonhar " written by Paulo Martins and performed by Rita Guerra. The Portuguese participating broadcaster, Radiotelevisão Portuguesa (RTP), organised the national final Canção para Eurovisão 2003 in order to select its entry, after having previously selected the performer internally. RTP returned to the Eurovision Song Contest after a one-year absence following their withdrawal in 2002 as one of the bottom six countries in the 2001 contest. The winning song of the national final was selected exclusively by public televoting. "Deixa-me sonhar " emerged as the winning song with 75% of the votes.

Portugal was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 with the song "Foi magia", written by Paulo Neves, and performed by Sofia Vitória. The Portuguese participating broadcaster, Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP), organised the national final Festival da Canção 2004 in order to select its entry for the contest. The competition consisted of two shows on 18 and 25 January 2004 where the winner was selected exclusively by public televoting. "Foi magia" performed by Sofia Vitória emerged as the winner with 39,072 votes.

The Voice Kids is a Polish reality and talent show that premiered on January 1, 2018, on the TVP 2 television network. The Voice Kids is a part of the internationally syndicated show The Voice and based on the reality singing competition launched in the Netherlands as The Voice Kids. The show was created by Dutch television producer John de Mol.

Portugal competed in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Paris, France, on 19 December. Portuguese broadcaster RTP is responsible for the participation, and selected Simão Oliveira to represent the country, after he won the second season of The Voice Kids Portugal.

The third season of Portuguese The Voice Kids is a talent show broadcast on RTP1, which premiered on 8 May 2022. Carlão, Carolina Deslandes and Fernando Daniel returned for their second seasons as coaches and in the meantime, Marisa Liz was replaced by young sensation Bárbara Tinoco. Presenter Catarina Furtado continues to host the show, and Fábio Lopes also returns as the backstage presenter.

Portugal competed in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Armenia, which was held on 11 December 2022 in Yerevan. Portuguese broadcaster RTP is responsible for the participation, and selected Nicolas Alves to represent the country, after being the runner-up on the third season of The Voice Kids, due to the actual winner Maria Gil having been born in November 2007.

The fourth season of Portuguese The Voice Kids is a talent show broadcast on RTP1, which premiered on 9 April 2023. Carlão and Fernando Daniel returned for their third seasons as coaches, while Bárbara Tinoco returned for her second. In the meantime, Carolina Deslandes was replaced by former The Voice Portugal coach, Aurea. Catarina Furtado continues to host the show, however, Fábio Lopes was replaced by Catarina Maia as the backstage presenter.

The eleventh season of The Voice Portugal is a talent show broadcast on RTP1, which premiered on 17 September 2023. Marisa Liz, Dino d'Santiago, Diogo Piçarra, and Carolina Deslandes all exited the coaching panel and were replaced by returning coach António Zambujo, The Voice Kids coach Fernando Daniel, The Voice Gerações coach Sara Correia, and debutant Sónia Tavares. Catarina Furtado and Catarina Maia returned as main and backstage hostesses, respectively, while Vasco Palmeirim left the program.

Avelino Vaz Maia, better known as Nininho Vaz Maia or Nininho, is a Portuguese singer and songwriter.

The fifth season of Portuguese The Voice Kids is a talent show broadcast on RTP1, which premiered on 14 April 2024. Carlão and Bárbara Tinoco returned for their fourth and third seasons as coaches, respectively. In the meantime, Fernando Daniel and Aurea were replaced by Nininho Vaz Maia and Got Talent Portugal judge Cuca Roseta. Catarina Furtado and Catarina Maia both returned as the host and backstage presenter, respectively.

Carlos Nobre known professionally as Carlão and formerly Pacman, is an Angolan Portuguese rapper and songwriter. He is known for being a founding member in the Portuguese hip-hop band Da Weasel.

The twelfth season of The Voice Portugal is a talent show broadcast on RTP1, which premiered on 22 September 2024. Fernando Daniel, Sara Correia, and Sónia Tavares all returned as coaches from the previous season. Nininho Vaz Maia, who made his debut as a coach on the fifth season of The Voice Kids, joined the panel this season, replacing António Zambujo. Catarina Furtado returned as the main hostess, while Catarina Maia was replaced by Maria Petronilho as the backstage hostess.
