Fiasco was an American, Brooklyn-based trio, formed in October 2005 by Jonathan Edelstein (guitar/vocals), Julian Bennett Holmes (drums), and Lucian Buscemi (electric bass/vocals), although all three are multi-instrumentalists. [1] They were known for their intense, high-energy music, their energetic live shows, and for playing off the venue's stage, in the round. They drew influences from early 1980s hardcore punk bands such as Minor Threat, Flipper and Bad Brains, as well as more recent noise and indie rock bands such as Lightning Bolt, Fugazi, and Shellac, and math rock bands including Hella and Don Caballero.

History

Fiasco formed in 2005 in Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York, United States. On June 24, 2007, Fiasco released "God Loves Fiasco," their 23-track debut on their own Beautiful Records label, receiving positive reviews from Spin, among others. [1]

On May 14, 2008, the band announced that they signed to independent Brooklyn label Impose Records, [2] [3] and would be releasing a new LP entitled Native Canadians , which they said will be released in a package containing the 12" vinyl record and a CD. Impose is the same independent label that also released fellow Brooklyn band; Total Slacker, in 2010. [4] [5]

On June 17, 2008, the band announced on their Myspace that they would have their first national concert tour in August 2008, in order to promote Native Canadians prior to its release, which was later revealed would be October 14, 2008.

On August 29, 2008, they released their first music video, for the instrumental "Oh, You Horny Monster!" on Pitchfork.tv, to promote the upcoming release of Native Canadians. In May 2009, The Homosexuals announced that Fiasco, along with existing members Bruno Wizard and Mike Dos Santos, would be the new lineup of The Homosexuals. In July 2009, Fiasco announced that they were recording a new LP.

In July 2012, after seven years, they called it quits due to other commitments.

The band performs in the documentary Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten , [13] which prompted the band to play at the opening of the film at the Sarajevo Film Festival. [14]

The Opposite of December... A Season of Separation is the debut full-length album by American metalcore band Poison the Well. It was released on December 14, 1999. Influential in the early popularization of metalcore around the turn of the 21st century, the album was the band's first on Trustkill Records and is now recognized as a landmark album in the genre due to its quality and influence. The album was the band's first release to appear on CMJ's charts, reaching number 9 on the Loud Rock chart in May 2000. It had sold 30,000 copies by 2002. The Lovely Sparrows is an Austin, Texas based indie rock band currently on Abandoned Love Records and founded by Shawn Jones. Their sound is categorized as indie rock, folk rock, experimental rock, alternative rock, or just rock, blending lush, complex arrangements with sing-along choruses that bring to mind folk-inflected pop and well-written novellas. Pulling Up Floors, Pouring on (New) Paint, released in 2006, captures the gorgeous melodies and warm, organic maladies of front man Shawn Jones. The September 2008 release saw the band embark on its most extensive touring to date, which included CMJ Music Marathon, Pop Montreal and South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. The Lovely Sparrows premiered the music video directed and animated by Eric Power of Clear Productions for "Year of the Dog" off Bury the Cynic during the 2009 SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas. Graeme K. is a musician, producer, and owner of Mckeenstreet Music, a small, independent record label based in Portland, Maine. As an artist, he is known for dense, highly orchestrated compositions utilizing electronics and live instrumentation. In 2005, he was selected as one of the ten best unsigned artists in New York City by CMJ and asked to play in the 'Best of the Five Boroughs' concert in Prospect Park. In 2008, he released his debut record, Hidden Beast. The Bollard claimed, "The instrumentation and arrangements are astounding." Bluesbunny.com gave the record its highest score of 5 stars, calling it "Music that convinces you. Music that will put you under a spell. A spell that relieves the mediocrity of existence. He was also the drummer in the rock groups Brenda and BOXY. In 2010, he won the Best Electronic Act award in The Phoenix.
