Filip Rak (born 3 February 2003) is a Polish middle distance and cross country runner. He is the Polish indoor champion over 1500 metres and 3000 metres, and national U23 record holder over 1500 metres indoors and outdoors. [1]
He broke the Polish U18 record for the 1500 metres in Gdańsk in August 2020, running 3:45.86. [2] He finished ninth at the 2021 European Athletics U20 Championships over 1500 metres in Tallinn. [3]
He won the Polish U20 1500 metres indoors title in February 2022. He qualified for the final in the Men's 1500 metres at the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia, placing tenth overall. [4] [5]
He finished fourth in the Polish national cross country championship in November 2023 and was part of the Polish team that finished seventh at the 2023 European Cross Country Championships in Brussels the following month. [6]
He finished eighth at the 2024 Copernicus Cup over 1500 metres in February 2024, and broke the Polish U23 indoors record with a time of 3:30.37. [7] The following week he claimed Polish national titles over 1500 metres and 3000 metres indoors, running a 3000m personal best of 7:56.51. [8]
In May 2024, in Olkusz he ran a time of 1:45.97 in the 800 meters. [9] The following week he lowered his outdoor 1500 metres personal best to 3:33.74 in Chorzow, a Polish national U23 outdoors record which met the qualifying standard for the 2024 European Championships in Rome. [10] The time also places him third on the all-time Polish list. [11] He competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics over 1500 metres. [12]
He runs for AZS Politechnika Opolska club and attends the University of Opole. [13]
The 1500 metres or 1,500-metre run is the foremost middle distance track event in athletics. The distance has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 and the World Championships in Athletics since 1983. It is equivalent to 1.5 kilometers or approximately 15⁄16 miles. The event is closely associated with its slightly longer cousin, the mile race, from which it derives its nickname "the metric mile".
Adam Piotr Kszczot is a retired Polish middle-distance runner who specialised in the 800 metres. His achievements include silver medals at the 2015 and 2017 World Championships in Athletics, gold at the 2018 World Indoor Championships as well as silver and bronze at the 2014 and 2010 World Indoor Championships respectively. Kszczot won three gold medals in the 800 m at both the European Outdoor and Indoor Championships. He twice competed at the Olympic Games, in 2012 and 2016, narrowly missing the final on both occasions.
Marcin Przemysław Lewandowski is a Polish retired middle-distance runner. He won the bronze medal in the 1500 metres at the 2019 World Athletics Championships and silver in the same event at the 2018 World Indoor Championships. At the European Athletics Championships, Lewandowski claimed gold in the 800 metres in 2010 and silvers in 2016 and 2018 for the 800 m and 1500 m respectively. He took also five medals at the European Indoor Championships, including three golds between 2015 and 2019, and two silvers in 2011 and 2021.
Henryk Jan Szordykowski was a Polish runner who specialized in the 800 metres and 1500 metres.
Gudaf Tsegay Desta is an Ethiopian middle- and long-distance runner. She is the current women’s world record holder for 5,000 m (14:00.21), set at the 2023 final Diamond League event, the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon. Eugene is also where she won the World Athletics Championships on 5,000 m in 2022. At the World Athletics Championships, Gudaf also won the gold medal for 10,000 metres in 2023; a bronze for the 1,500 metres in 2019, and silver in 2022. She is the 2020 Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist in the women's 5,000 metres. She is a two-time World Indoor Championship 1,500 m medallist, claiming bronze in 2016 and gold in 2022. She is also the world indoor record holder for the 1,500 m, setting previously in this event world under-18 (current) and U20 (former) records.
Sofia Ennaoui is a Polish middle-distance runner who specialises in the 1500 metres. She finished fifth in the event at the 2022 World Athletics Championships as the second non-African woman. Ennaoui won the silver medal at the 2018 European Championships, and a bronze at the 2022 European Championships. At the European Indoor Championships, she earned bronze in 2017, silver in 2019 and bronze in 2023. She took two individual age-group medals at the European Cross Country Championships.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen is a Norwegian middle- and long-distance runner who is the current world record holder in the short track 1500 metres, the 2000 metres and the 3000 metres, and holds the world best time over the two mile distance. Ingebrigtsen is a two-time Olympic champion, having won a gold medal in the 1500 m at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, setting an Olympic and European record, and a gold medal in the 5000 metres at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He is also a two-time World champion, winning gold medals in the 5000 m in 2022 and 2023 and a six-time European champion, winning gold medals in the 1500 m and 5000 m in 2018, 2022, and 2024. In addition to the 1500 m, Ingebrigtsen holds European records in the mile, 3000 m, and 5000 m, and is one of only three men to run a sub-3:30 1500 m, sub-7:30 3000 m and a sub-12:50 5000 m.
Jemma Reekie is a Scottish middle-distance runner who competed at the 2020 and 2024 Summer Olympics.
Lemlem Hailu is an Ethiopian middle- and long-distance runner. She won the gold medal in the 3000 metres at the 2022 World Indoor Championships. Hailu earned bronze in the 1500 metres at the 2019 African Games.
Robert Farken is a German middle distance runner. He is a German outdoor champion and a four time German indoor champion, earning him the nickname "Farken fast".
