Filomenaleonisa Iakopo OLY [1] (born February 10, 2006) is an American Samoan sprinter from the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). She qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics and was named American Samoa's flagbearer.
Iakopo was born on February 10, 2006, in the Northern Mariana Islands. [2] [3] She is of Chamorro and American Samoan descent: her father, an Air Force veteran, is from American Samoa, while her mother is from Saipan. [3] She began competing in athletics in seventh grade. [4] After being coached by her father for a time, her father hired Olympian Peter Pulu to help train her. [3] She also has competed in bodybuilding events, participating in the 2021 Dee Clayton Classic championship along with her father. [5]
Iakopo attended Kagman High School in Saipan; she graduated in 2024 in the top 10 of her class. [3] While in high school, she began competing in international competitions representing American Samoa, setting several national records, including in the 100 metres and 200 metres. [3] [6] She made her international debut at the 2022 Oceania Athletics Championships and competed in the 100m and 200m events; her father, then-aged 49, also competed in those events. [4] She later competed at the 2022 Pacific Mini Games, the 2023 Oceania Cup, the 2023 Pacific Games, the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships and the 2024 Oceania Athletics Championships. [3] At the 2024 World Championships, she competed in the 60 metres and set the national record. [2]
After Iakopo graduated from Kagman High School, she decided to attend Baylor University, majoring in neuroscience, in 2024. [3] In July 2024, she was selected to compete at the 2024 Summer Olympics in the 100 metres. [3] [7] She was named the American Samoan flagbearer at the competition. [3] Her preference was to represent CNMI at the Olympics, but the country of her birth does not have Olympic representation. [3] Iakopo set an American Samoan national record of 12.78 in the preliminary round of the 100m at the Olympics. [2]
The Northern Mariana Islands, officially the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, is an unincorporated territory and commonwealth of the United States consisting of 14 islands in the northwestern Pacific Ocean. The Northern Mariana Islands national football team represents the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in international men's football. The team is controlled by the governing body for football in the Northern Mariana Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association, which is a member of the East Asian Football Federation (EAFF) and since December 2020 a full member of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The association is not a member of the world governing body FIFA, although it had applied for membership, and so while the national team is eligible to enter AFC and EAFF-run competitions, they are currently ineligible for global competitions such as the FIFA World Cup. As such, they do not have an official FIFA ranking. However, the team have been consistently ranked as one of the worst teams in the world on the Elo ratings and were in fact, in July 2016 rated as the worst men's senior international team in the world in a ratings system that also includes a number of other non-FIFA teams.

Tuvalu competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, which was held from 27 July to 12 August 2012. The country's participation at London marked its second appearance in the Summer Olympics since its debut at the 2008 Summer Olympics. The delegation consisted of three competitors: two short-distance runners, Tavevele Noa and Asenate Manoa, and one weightlifter, Tuau Lapua Lapua. All three qualified for the games through wildcard places because they did not meet the qualification standards. Lapua was the flag bearer for the opening ceremony while Manoa carried it at the closing ceremony. Noa and Manoa failed to advance beyond the preliminary rounds of their events although the latter established a new national record for the women's 100 metres, while Lapua placed 12th in the men's featherweight weightlifting competition.

Voters in the Northern Mariana Islands voted for the Governor of the Northern Mariana Islands, the non-voting delegate to the United States House of Representatives, attorney general, 6 seats in the Northern Mariana Islands Senate, all twenty seats in the Northern Mariana Islands House of Representatives, 4 mayors, seats for the municipal council, and seats for the board of education. Additionally, a referendum involving changes to the constitution was held.

It was the eleventh edition of the Pacific Mini Games and the first to be hosted by the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands. This event was originally going to be held in 2021, but was postponed to 2022 due to COVID-19 pandemic.
