Flamingo 50 was an English punk band from Liverpool. [1] [2] Formed in 1999 by Lou Hanman, Morgan Brown, and Karen Timms whilst meeting at university [3] and inspired by the riot grrrl movement. [4] They released two albums, three EPs and four split records, and toured extensively in the UK and France. They were regularly played on the radio by John Peel and Steve Lamacq. [5]

They supported bands such as The Fall, Ghost Mice, [6] Electrelane [7] and The Thermals. They played Ladyfests and queer punk festivals with bands such as The Gossip, Electrelane, Bangs, and Life Without Buildings. [8] [9] [10]

Hanman and Brown were also in another band together during this time called Three Minute Margin. [2]

Flamingo 50 played their last concert in November 2008, before temporarily reforming for two one-off shows in 2013 and 2014. [11]

Hanman would later to move to Bristol where she formed the band Caves and briefly played in Personal Best. She would go on to play with Katie Ellen, Worriers, Mikey Erg and fill in as a touring member of Camp Code and RVIVR. She now lives in Philadelphia, USA with a new project called All Away Lou. [12] [13] Fitzpatrick currently plays in Good Grief and Witching Waves. [14] Brown now plays in Pardon Us. [15]

Tobi Celeste Vail is an American independent musician, music critic and feminist activist from Olympia, Washington. She was a central figure in the riot grrl scene—she coined the spelling of "grrl"—and she started the zine Jigsaw. A drummer, guitarist and singer, she was a founding member of the band Bikini Kill. Vail has collaborated in several other bands figuring in the Olympia music scene. Vail writes for eMusic.

Bam Balams were an Australian rock band which formed in 1984 and disbanded in 1992. They were led by singer-songwriter and guitarist, Brendan "Wig" Kibble. The group issued one album, Genuine Rock & Roll Medicine Show, an EP and six singles. Their records did well in the Australian independent charts but they did not appear on the ARIA Charts. They toured nationally but did not perform overseas.

Electrelane were an English indie rock band, formed in Brighton in 1998 by Verity Susman and Emma Gaze. The band comprised Susman, Gaze, Mia Clarke, and Ros Murray. Their music drew from a wide range of influences including Neu!, Stereolab, Sonic Youth, and the Velvet Underground. Although the band had strong feminist and political views in their personal lives, they generally preferred to not communicate that directly to their fans or through their music; one exception is their inclusion of the protest song "The Partisan," - a Leonard Cohen cover - which they began playing while on tour in the United States during the months preceding the 2004 Presidential election. The band, when playing live, had a reputation for a focused show that minimised audience interaction and rarely included more than one encore.

Racebannon was an American noise punk band from Bloomington, Indiana. The band, formed in September 1996, have cited influence ranging from Antioch Arrow to the Melvins, and have also stated that they're heavily influenced by hardcore, hip-hop, heavy metal, jazz, and the blues. The band's sound is noted for being odd and experimental, and the group has been dubbed as "noise rock" or "noise metal" by critics. Since their formation, the band has released numerous albums, extended plays, and splits through a variety of labels, such as Secretly Canadian and Level Plane.

Caves were an English melodic punk band from Bristol. Their lineup was based around the core duo of Lou Hanman (vocals/guitarist) and Jonathan Minto (bass/vocals). They have released albums on Specialist Subject Records, Yo-Yo Records, and Dead Broke Records.

Personal Best are an English punk band from Bristol. Founded by songwriter Robin Gatt in 2013, they have had several lineup changes in the time since. They have currently released two full-length albums; Arnos Vale (2015) and What You At (2019).
