The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow stated "In general, the music is pretty and relaxed, but not too invigorating. None of the themes from the show ended up catching on. The Mastersounds, who cannot help sounding a bit like the Modern Jazz Quartet in spots, play quite well, but this LP falls short of being essential". [3]

John Leslie "Wes" Montgomery was an American jazz guitarist. One of the most influential guitarists of the twentieth century, Montgomery was known for an unusual technique of plucking the strings with the side of his thumb and his extensive use of octaves, which gave him a distinctive sound.
Flower Drum Song was the eighth musical by the team of Rodgers and Hammerstein. It is based on the 1957 novel, The Flower Drum Song, by Chinese-American author C. Y. Lee. It premiered on Broadway in 1958 and was then performed in the West End and on tour. It was adapted for a 1961 musical film.
William Howard "Monk" Montgomery was an American jazz bassist. He was a pioneer of the electric bass guitar and possibly the first to record on it when he recorded with Art Farmer in 1953. He was the brother of jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery and vibraphonist Buddy Montgomery.
Charles "Buddy" Montgomery was an American jazz vibraphonist and pianist. He was the younger brother of Wes and Monk Montgomery, both notable musicians on guitar and bass guitar respectively.
