Shamrock Rovers Football Club is an Irish association football club based in Tallaght, South Dublin. The club's senior team competes in the League of Ireland Premier Division and it is the most successful club in the Republic of Ireland. The club has won the League of Ireland title a record 17 times and the FAI Cup a record 24 times. Shamrock Rovers have supplied more players to the Republic of Ireland national football team (62) than any other club. In All-Ireland competitions, such as the Intercity Cup, they hold the record for winning the most titles, having won seven cups overall.

Bohemian Football Club , more commonly referred to as Bohs, is a professional football club from Dublin, Ireland. Bohemians compete in the Premier Division of the League of Ireland, and are the oldest League of Ireland club in continuous existence. Bohs are the third most successful club in League of Ireland football history, having won the League of Ireland title 11 times, the FAI Cup 7 times, the League of Ireland Shield 6 times and the League of Ireland Cup 3 times. Prior to the establishment of the Football Association of Ireland and League of Ireland, Bohemians competed in the Irish Football League and Irish Cup, which were at the time all-Ireland competitions. During that period they won the Irish Cup once and finished runners up 5 times. They share the record for most wins in European competition with archrivals Shamrock Rovers and hold the record for Leinster Senior Cup wins with 32 cups claimed.

Derry City F.C. association football club

Derry City Football Club is a professional football club based in Derry, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. It plays in the League of Ireland Premier Division, the top tier of league football in the Republic of Ireland, and is the League of Ireland's only participant from Northern Ireland. The club's home ground is the Brandywell Stadium and the players wear red and white striped shirts from which its nickname, the Candystripes, derives. The club is also known as the Red and White Army, Derry or City.

Finn Harps F.C. association football club

Finn Harps Football Club are an Irish football club that will play in the Premier Division of the League of Ireland, as of 2019. The club was founded in 1954 and elected to the league in 1969. They hail from Ballybofey, County Donegal and play their home matches at Finn Park. The club's colours are blue and white, and they go by the nickname the Harps. The main successes of the club include winning an FAI Cup in 1973–74 and the First Division title in 2004.

FAI Cup football competition in the Republic of Ireland

The Football Association of Ireland Senior Challenge Cup, known as the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup for sponsorship reasons, is a knock-out association football competition contested annually by teams from the Republic of Ireland. Organised by the FAI, the competition is currently sponsored by the Irish Daily Mail. It was known as the Free State Cup from 1923 to 1936. Shamrock Rovers hold the record of most wins with 24.

League of Ireland Premier Division association football league

The League of Ireland Premier Division, also known as the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division, is the top level division in both the League of Ireland and the Republic of Ireland football league system. The division was formed in 1985 following a reorganisation of the League of Ireland. St. Patrick's Athletic and Bohemians are the only current League of Ireland clubs never to have been relegated from the Premier Division. Since 2003 the Premier Division has operated as a summer league.

There are many derbies in the League of Ireland, and despite the fact that historically more teams compete in the First Division, the majority are played in the Premier Division, the top flight of Irish football.

The 2011 season is Bohemian Football Club's 91st season in the League of Ireland and the club's 121st year in existence having played previously in the Irish Football League from 1902 to 1911 and 1912 to 1920. Having finished 2nd in the league last year they club will play in the League of Ireland Premier Division under manager Pat Fenlon. They will also compete in the FAI Cup, the League of Ireland Cup, the Setanta Cup, the Leinster Senior Cup and the Europa League this season.

The 2011 Sligo Rovers F.C. season is the club's 67th season competing in the League of Ireland and the team's fifth season under the management of Paul Cook.

In 2012 Shelbourne F.C. competed in the League of Ireland Premier Division. Shelbourne finished the season in 8th position and reached the semi-finals of the 2012 FAI Cup. The 2012 season marked the first time Shelbourne competed in the Premier Division since 2006, when as champions, they were demoted due to financial issues. Shelbourne gained promotion by finishing 2nd in the 2011 League of Ireland First Division.

The 2012 season was Bohemians's 92nd season in the League of Ireland. Having finished 5th in the league the previous year the club played in the 2012 League of Ireland Premier Division under manager Aaron Callaghan. The 2012 Sligo Rovers F.C. season was the club's 68th season competing in the League of Ireland and the team's first season under the management of Ian Baraclough. It was the team's seventh consecutive season in the Premier Division. Sligo Rovers won their first title in 35 years.

The 2012 Bray Wanderers F.C. season is the club's 28th season competing in the League of Ireland and the team's first season under the management of Keith Long as Pat Devlin took up the director of football role at the club. It's the team's eighth consecutive season in the Premier Division. Long left his role in September and Devlin retook the manager's role.

The 2012 season was Derry City's second successive season in the League of Ireland Premier Division. Alongside the league competition, the club also competed in the FAI Cup, the Setanta Sports Cup and the League of Ireland Cup this season. Having finished in third place in the 2011 Premier Division, Derry City would have qualified for the first qualifying round of the 2012-13 UEFA Europa League but they did not participate as the club were refused entry by UEFA due to a three-year European ban given to the club following their liquidation in 2009. The 2012 season was University College Dublin A.F.C.'s third successive season in the League of Ireland Premier Division. The 2016 Dundalk F.C. season is the club's 114th season of existence, and their 8th consecutive season in the League of Ireland Premier Division. The club enters the 2016 as the defending league champions. Additionally, Dundalk will be participating in the 2016–17 UEFA Champions League.
