Language education – the process and practice of teaching a second or foreign language – is primarily a branch of applied linguistics, but can be an interdisciplinary field. There are four main learning categories for language education: communicative competencies, proficiencies, cross-cultural experiences, and multiple literacies.

The impact factor (IF) or journal impact factor (JIF) of an academic journal is a scientometric index calculated by Clarivate that reflects the yearly mean number of citations of articles published in the last two years in a given journal, as indexed by Clarivate's Web of Science.

<i>World Politics</i> Academic journal

World Politics is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal covering political science and international relations. It is published by Cambridge University Press on behalf of the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies. Before 2003, it was sponsored by Princeton's Center of International Studies and before 1951, by the Yale Institute of International Studies. It was established in 1948. Journal Citation Reports (JCR) is an annual publication by Clarivate. It has been integrated with the Web of Science and is accessed from the Web of Science Core Collection. It provides information about academic journals in the natural and social sciences, including impact factors. The JCR was originally published as a part of the Science Citation Index. Currently, the JCR, as a distinct service, is based on citations compiled from the Science Citation Index Expanded and the Social Sciences Citation Index. As of the 2023 edition, journals from the Arts and Humanities Citation Index and the Emerging Sources Citation Index will also be included.

<i>Bilingualism: Language and Cognition</i> Academic journal

Bilingualism: Language and Cognition is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal of linguistics focusing on the study of multilingualism, including bilingual language competence, perception and production, bilingual language acquisition in children and adults, neurolinguistics of bilingualism, and non-linguistic cognitive processes in bilinguals. The journal is published by Cambridge University Press and was co-established by François Grosjean in 1998.

<i>Journal of Logic, Language and Information</i> Academic journal

The Journal of Logic, Language and Information is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal covering research on "natural, formal, and programming languages". It is the official journal of the European Association for Logic, Language and Information and was established in 1974. It is published by Springer Science+Business Media and the editor-in-chief is Lawrence S. Moss. According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2020 impact factor of 0.829.

Teresa P. Pica, also known as Tere Pica, was Professor of Education at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, a post she held from 1983 until her death in 2011. Her areas of expertise included second language acquisition, language curriculum design, approaches to classroom practice, and classroom discourse analysis. Pica was well known for her pioneering work in task-based language learning and published widely in established international journals in the field of English as a foreign or second language and applied linguistics.

<i>System</i> (journal) Academic journal

System is a peer-reviewed academic journal covering the applications of educational technology and applied linguistics to problems of foreign language teaching and learning. It was established in 1973 and is published by Elsevier. As of 2022, the editors-in-chief, in alphabetical order, are Idoia Elola, Mairin Hennebry, Jim McKinley, Lawrence Jun Zhang, and Yongyan Zheng. The associate editor is Vincent Greenier, the book reviews editor is Pascal Matzler, and the student editor is Nathan Thomas. Until 2013, System published four issues per year. In 2014, it published six issues, and since 2015 it has published eight issues per year.

The Journal of Second Language Writing is a peer-reviewed academic journal in the fields of linguistics and language education. Its scope encompasses all aspects of second and foreign language writing, including writing instruction and assessment. It was established in 1992 and is published quarterly by Elsevier. The current editors-in-chief are Amanda Kibler and Todd Ruecker. The founding editors were Ilona Leki and Tony Silva.

The Modern Language Journal is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the National Federation of Modern Language Teachers Associations. It covers research and discussion about the learning and teaching of foreign and second languages.

Language Learning: A Journal of Research in Language Studies is a peer-reviewed academic journal published quarterly by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the Language Learning Research Club at the University of Michigan. The editor-in-chief is Nick C. Ellis University of Michigan.

Journal of Research in Reading is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal published by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the UKLA. The journal was established in 1978. The Journal of Research in Reading publishes papers on topics such as the history and development of literacy, policy and strategy for literacy, and the learning, teaching and use of literacy in different contexts. This research encompasses fields such as anthropology, cultural studies, education, language and linguistics and philosophy among others.

TESOL Quarterly is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal published by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of TESOL International Association. It covers English language teaching and learning, standard English as a second dialect, including articles on the psychology and sociology of language learning and teaching, professional preparation, curriculum development, and testing and evaluation. The editors-in-chief are Charlene Polio and Peter De Costa, both at Michigan State University. TESOL also publishes TESOL Journal.

TESOL International Association, formerly Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, is the largest professional organization for teachers of English as a second or foreign language. It was founded in 1966 and is based in Alexandria, Virginia, in the United States. As of 2018, it had 10,113 members worldwide and was affiliated with 109 language education organizations, just over half of which were based outside the United States. TESOL's total number of members, including those of affiliate organizations, was around 44,000.

Rosa María Manchón Ruiz is a Spanish linguist. She is currently a professor of applied linguistics at the University of Murcia, Spain. Her research focuses on second language acquisition and second language writing. She was the editor of the Journal of Second Language Writing between 2008 and 2014.

The Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research is a monthly online-only peer-reviewed scientific journal covering all aspects of interpersonal communication. It was established in 1936 as the Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, which was merged with the Journal of Speech and Hearing Research to form the Journal of Speech and Hearing Research in 1991. The word "Language" was added to the title in 1997. It is published by the American Speech–Language–Hearing Association and the editors-in-chief are Bharath Chandrasekaran, Sean Redmond, and Frederick Gallun. According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2017 impact factor of 1.906, ranking it 8th out of 25 journals in the category "Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology".
