California's state elections were held November 3,1998. Necessary primary elections were held on March 3. Up for election were all the seats of the California State Assembly,20 seats of the California Senate,seven constitutional officers,all the seats of the California Board of Equalization,as well as votes on retention of two Supreme Court justices and various appeals court judges. Twelve ballot measures were also up for approval. Municipal offices were also included in the election.
Proposition 11 of 2008 was a law enacted by California voters that placed the power to draw electoral boundaries for State Assembly and State Senate districts in a Citizens Redistricting Commission,as opposed to the State Legislature. To do this the Act amended both the Constitution of California and the Government Code. The law was proposed by means of the initiative process and was put to voters as part of the November 4,2008 state elections. In 2010,voters passed Proposition 20 which extended the Citizen Redistricting Commission's power to draw electoral boundaries to include U.S. House seats as well.
California Proposition 7,would have required California utilities to procure half of their power from renewable resources by 2025. In order to make that goal,levels of production of solar,wind and other renewable energy resources would more than quadruple from their current output of 10.9%. It would also require California utilities to increase their purchase of electricity generated from renewable resources by 2% annually to meet Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) requirements of 40% in 2020 and 50% in 2025. Current law AB32 requires an RPS of 20% by 2010.

Blakeslee retired from the Senate in December 2012.
Proposition 39 is a ballot initiative in the state of California that modifies the way out-of-state corporations calculate their income tax burdens. The proposition was approved by voters in the November 6 general election,with 61.1% voting in favor of it.
Anthony Rendon is an American politician who served as the 70th speaker of the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2023. A member of the Democratic Party he is the second-longest serving speaker in California history. Since 2022,he has represented the 62nd district,located in the southeastern part of Los Angeles County,including the cities of South Gate,Lynwood,and Paramount. He previously represented the 63rd district from 2012 to 2022.
The 2018 California State Treasurer general election was held on November 6,2018,to elect the State Treasurer of California. Incumbent Democratic Treasurer John Chiang did not run for re-election to a second term and instead ran unsuccessfully for governor.
The 2018 California Superintendent of Public Instruction primary election was held on June 5,2018,to elect the Superintendent of Public Instruction of California. Unlike most other elections in California,the superintendent is not elected under the state's "top-two primary". Instead,the officially nonpartisan position is elected via a general election,with a runoff held on November 6,2018,because no candidate received a majority of the vote.
