Frederico Ricciardi Pinheiro de Melo (born 13 July 1987 in Azusa, California, United States) is a Portuguese sailor, who specializes in heavyweight one-person dinghy (Finn) and two-person keelboat (Star) classes. [1] [2] He represented his nation Portugal, along with his partner and three-time Olympian Afonso Domingos, at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and has trained throughout his sailing career with Cascais Naval Club (Portuguese : Clube Naval de Cascais) in his current residence Cascais, under his personal coach Andy Zawieja. [1] [3] Born and raised in the United States, Melo also held a dual citizenship to compete internationally for his parents' homeland in sailing. As of June 2015, Melo was ranked twentieth in the world for the heavyweight one-person dinghy class by the International Sailing Federation.

Melo qualified for the Portuguese sailing team in the Star class at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, securing a berth by placing thirteenth at the 2011 ISAF World Championships in Perth, Western Australia. [4] [5] He and his skipper Domingos struggled to mount a challenge against a field of fifteen other boats throughout the ten-race series, ending them in the penultimate position out of sixteen with a net grade of 108. [6] [7]

In 2017-18 he was a crewmember on the boat Turn the Tide on Plastic in the Volvo Ocean Race. [8]

Samuel Reis Albrecht is a Brazilian sailor who specializes in both two-person dinghy (470) and mixed multihull classes. He has been selected to compete for the Brazilian sailing team at the 2008 Summer Olympics, finishing seventeenth along with his partner Fabio Pillar in the 470 regatta. After missing out on the Olympic selection in 2012, Albrecht decided to turn his attention and eventually teamed up with Olympic bronze medalist Isabel Swan on the newly instated Nacra 17 catamaran for a chance to compete at his possible second Games in Rio de Janeiro. As of April 2015, Albrecht is ranked forty-fourth in the world for the mixed multihull class by the International Sailing Federation.

Philip Lawton is an Irish former sailor, who specialized in the two-person dinghy (470) class. Together with his partner and eventual three-time Olympian Gerald Owens, he was named one of the country's top sailors in the double-handed dinghy for the 2008 Summer Olympics, finishing in a lowly sixteenth place. A member of the Royal Irish Yacht Club, Lawton trained for the Games under his personal coach and Owens' former partner from Athens 2004 Ross Killian.

Mitja Nevečny is a Slovenian former sailor, who specialized in the two-person dinghy (470) class. Together with his partner and eventual two-time Olympian Karlo Hmeljak, he was named one of the country's top sailors in the double-handed dinghy for the 2008 Summer Olympics, finishing in a lowly eighteenth place. A member of the local sailing club in his native Koper, Nevečny trained for the Games under his personal coach Tine Može.

André Otto da Fonseca is a Brazilian sailor, who specialized in the double-dinghy (470) and skiff (49er) classes. A three-time Olympian, he started his career as a double-handed dinghy sailor in Sydney, before switching to the skiff for the remaining two editions of the Games, finishing in sixth and seventh place, respectively. A Florianópolis native, Fonseca trained most of his competitive sporting career at Santa Catarina Yacht Club.
