Sailing at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London was held 29 July – 11 August 2012 at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy in Weymouth. The 2012 sailing program consisted of a total of ten events. Eleven fleet races were scheduled off the coast at Weymouth Bay for each event, except for the 49er and the Elliott 6m classes. For the 49er class, a total of 16 races were scheduled. Of the 11 (16) races, 10 (15) were scheduled as opening races and the last one as medal race. For the Elliott 6m a series of match races was scheduled. The sailing was done on different types of courses.
Peter Burling is a New Zealand sailor. He was the 2021 America's Cup winning skipper and helmsman, and the 2017 America's Cup winning helmsman of Team New Zealand. Burling won an Olympic gold medal in the 49er class at the 2016 games and silver medals in the 2012 and 2020 Olympics.
Stéphane Christidis is a French sailor. In 2004, he competed in the men's 49er at the Olympic Games with team-mate Marc Audineau, finishing in 11th place. Christidis then competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the 49er class with team-mate Emmanuel Dyen, finishing in 6th place.
Patrícia da Costa Freitas is an American-born Brazilian windsurfer, who specialized in Neil Pryde RS:X class. She represented Brazil in three editions of the Olympic Games and captured her first ever individual title in her sailing career at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. Holding dual citizenship between Brazil and the United States, Freitas currently resides in Rio de Janeiro, where she sails and trains for the Rio de Janeiro Yacht Club under her personal coach and mentor Lucas Souza. As of September 2013, Freitas is ranked as one of the top ten sailors in the world for the sailboard class by the International Sailing Federation, following her successes at the South American and World Championships in her home nation.
Anton Carl Diderik Dahlberg is a Swedish sailor, who specializes in the 470 class, a two-person dinghy. He has represented Sweden, along with his partner Sebastian Östling, in two editions of the Olympic Games, and with Fredrik Bergström in 2016 and 2020, winning an Olympic silver in 2020. He has been representing the Royal Swedish Yacht Club throughout most of his career.

He has trained for Cascais Naval Club throughout most of his sporting career under his personal coach Pedro Pinto. As of September 2014, Lima is ranked twenty-fourth in the world for the men's skiff class by the International Sailing Federation, following his successes at the European Championships, and 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships in Santander, Spain.

Frederico Ricciardi Pinheiro de Melo is a Portuguese sailor, who specializes in heavyweight one-person dinghy (Finn) and two-person keelboat (Star) classes. He represented his nation Portugal, along with his partner and three-time Olympian Afonso Domingos, at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and has trained throughout his sailing career with Cascais Naval Club in his current residence Cascais, under his personal coach Andy Zawieja. Born and raised in the United States, Melo also held a dual citizenship to compete internationally for his parents' homeland in sailing. As of June 2015, Melo was ranked twentieth in the world for the heavyweight one-person dinghy class by the International Sailing Federation.
Kemal Muslubaş is a retired Turkish sailor, who specialized in the Laser class. Muslubas represented his nation Turkey in two editions of the Olympic Games, became a two-time national champion in the Laser class at the Turkish Championships, and also earned a silver medal at the 2005 Summer Universiade in his native Istanbul.

He represented his country Slovenia in two editions of the Summer Olympic Games and came closest to the medal haul in the final race of his signature fleet, finishing in seventh place. Outside his Olympic career, Vinčec picked up a bronze at the 2007 ISAF Worlds in Cascais, Portugal, becoming the first Slovenian sailor to ascend the podium since the breakup of SFR Yugoslavia. A member of the country's Finn yacht club, Vinčec trained most of his competitive sporting career under the tutelage of his personal coach Roman Teply.

A Florianópolis native, Fonseca trained most of his competitive sporting career at Santa Catarina Yacht Club.

Outside the Games, the Sibello brothers collected a career total of five medals in a major international sailing regatta, including three bronzes from the 49er Worlds and a single Europeans title received in 2009. A member of Fiamme Gialle Sports Group (Italian: Gruppi Sportivi Fiamme Gialle, Pietro trained most of his competitive sailing career under the tutelage of head coach Luca Depedrini.
