Frode Haltli (born 15 May 1975 in Levanger), is a Norwegian accordion player. [1] [2]
Haltli started to play the accordion at the age of seven and over the following few years he won several national competitions and scholarships and was awarded first prize in Norwegian TV's Talentiaden 1991. He studied the accordion at The Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo from 1994 and at the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music in Copenhagen, where he debuted with a concert in 2000. [1]
He was awarded the Young Soloist of the Year prize 2001 by the Norwegian Concert Institute at the Bergen International Festival 2000, as well as second prize in the prestigious International Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition in the Netherlands.
His debut album Looking on Darkness (2002) was awarded Spellemannprisen (a Norwegian Grammy) for the best contemporary music album. [1] He also received the French Prix Gus Viseur in 2004 for the same album. His next album Passing images (2007) featured his own interpretations of Norwegian folk. He was joined by Arve Henriksen, Garth Knox and Maja Ratkje on this album. [3]
Frode currently (2022) lives in Svartskog, close to Oslo but frequently tours abroad, in Europe, Russia, America and Asia. He has performed as a soloist with major orchestras around the world and is actively working with chamber music—the trio POING taking up much of his time currently. The trio, with Rolf-Erik Nystrøm on the saxophone and Håkon Thelin on the double bass, mainly performs contemporary music.
He also often performs with his own 10-piece ensemble Avant Folk, Trygve Seim (with whom he released the CD 'Yeraz' on ECM in 2008), with Håkon Kornstad Trio, with Scandinavian like singer Unni Løvlid, fiddler Vegar Vårdal, fiddler Gjermund Larsen and in trio with Ragnhild Furebotten and Emilia Amper. Maja Solveig Kjelstrup Ratkje is a Norwegian vocalist and composer. She plays on vocals and elektronics instruments.
Mathias Eick is a Norwegian jazz musician, and the brother of the jazz musicians Johannes Eick and Trude Eick. He is mainly known from his releases on the jazz label ECM Records. His main instrument is the trumpet, but he also plays upright bass, vibraphone, piano and guitar. He has performed with several well-known music groups and musicians, e.g. Jaga Jazzist, Manu Katché, and the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra together with Chick Corea and Pat Metheny. Besides this he is also known for his collaboration with Norwegian singer-songwriter Thomas Dybdahl, and recordings with the Norwegian bands Turboneger, DumDum Boys, Motorpsycho, D'Sound and Bigbang.
Trygve Seim is a Norwegian jazz saxophonist and composer. Seim has released numerous albums since 1992, including over 20 albums for ECM Records as a composer, band-leader or co-band-leader.
Looking on Darkness is the debut CD of accordionist Frode Haltli, released on ECM New Series in 2002. The CD received a 'Norwegian Grammy' (Spellemannprisen) in the category Contemporary Music, as well as the French 'Prix Gus Viseur 2003'. In addition to Haltli the CD features the Vertavo String Quartet on one of the tracks. The CD is produced by Manfred Eicher.

Tora Karen Elisabeth Augestad is a Norwegian mezzosoprano, musical conductor and actor. One of Norway's most established classical singers, she focuses on jazz, musical theater, contemporary music, and cabaret. Her stage debut was the lead role in "Annie" in 1994, and won the Norwegian talent competition in 1993 at TV 2. Augestad has received Spellemannprisen and other awards for her albums. She is a frequent collaborator of Norwegian composer Marcus Paus.
