Veruca Salt is an American alternative rock band founded in Chicago in 1992 by vocalist-guitarists Nina Gordon and Louise Post, drummer Jim Shapiro, and bassist Steve Lack. They are best known for their first single, "Seether", which was released on the 1994 album American Thighs. That success was followed up with 1997's Eight Arms to Hold You. By 1998, Post was the only original member still in the band and continued on with other musicians. Veruca Salt released the album Resolver in 2000 and the album IV in 2006. After a hiatus in 2012, the band reformed with its original lineup. Their fifth studio album, Ghost Notes, was released in 2015.
Kittie is a Canadian heavy metal band from London, Ontario, founded in 1996. They were formed when guitarist Fallon Bowman and drummer Mercedes Lander met in gym class. Mercedes' sister, Morgan Lander, became the lead vocalist and one of Kittie's guitarists and Tanya Candler completed the band's lineup on bass. "Kittie" was chosen as the band name because the name "seemed contradictory." Funeral for Yesterday is the fourth studio album by Canadian heavy metal band Kittie. It was released on February 20, 2007, through X of Infamy Records and Merovingian Music (MRV). It was the band's first with guitarist Tara McLeod, and their only with bassist Trish Doan. The album was produced by Jack Ponti, and was recorded at RetroMedia Sound Studios in Red Bank, New Jersey, between July and August 2006. Intended to mark the band's "rebirth", Funeral for Yesterday saw Kittie transition towards a more melodic and accessible sound while retaining some of their heavier sensibilities. The album was also noted for its greater use of clean singing and vocal harmonies than on the band's previous releases.
