The 1st Lusophone Games were held in the Macau Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China between 7 and 15 October 2006. The 2006 Games were the first edition of this multi-sport event for Portuguese-speaking countries and territories, under the banner of ACOLOP.
The 2004 AFC Futsal Championship was held in Macau from 16 April to 25 April 2004.

2016 Asian Para Athletics Championships or IPC Athletics Asia-Oceania Championship 2016 was its first kind of continental championship held at Dubai Police Club Stadium, Dubai, UAE from March 7 to March 12. Iran emerged as overall champions with winning 23 Gold, 10 Silver and 7 Bronze while China and India finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The futsal competitions at the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat took place at the Ice Palace in Ashgabat.
The men's football tournament at the 2018 Asian Games was held from 10 August to 1 September 2018. It was the 17th edition of the men's tournament. In this tournament, 25 teams played in the men's competition. South Korea were the gold medal holders when they won the tournament in 2014. They managed to retain their title.
