Miss Venezuela is the national beauty pageant of Venezuela, traditionally held in September. It is preceded by two or three months of preliminary events, with the awarding of corporate prizes. The final televised competition generally lasts about four hours and is broadcast live across Latin America by Venevisión and produced by the networks parent company Cisneros Group, with edited versions to the United States and Mexico on the Univision and Telemundo networks. From 2013 to 2015, the national contest was split into two separate pageants: Miss Venezuela and Miss Venezuela Mundo. The pageant is also closely observed by other countries seeking to level competition due to its illustrious record of pageant victories. In 2016, the Venezuelan franchise for Miss Earth was awarded to Miss Earth Venezuela organized by National Directors Julio César Cruz and Alyz Henrich.

Zuleyka Jerrís Rivera Mendoza is a Puerto Rican actress, TV host, dancer, model and beauty queen who won Miss Universe 2006 in Los Angeles. She was previously crowned Miss Puerto Rico Universe 2006. She made her debut as a telenovela actress in Mexico's Telemundo's soap opera Dame Chocolate in 2007, which was followed by several other soap opera roles. In 2017 she appeared in the music video for "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi.
Miss Universe 2007, the 56th Miss Universe pageant, was held on 28 May 2007 at the National Auditorium in Mexico City, Mexico. Riyo Mori from Japan was crowned by Zuleyka Rivera of Puerto Rico as her successor at the end of the event. This is Japan's only second win at Miss Universe, and the only second time that Asia has won Miss Universe in the 21st century. 77 contestants competed in this year.

Leila Lopes of Angola was crowned at the end of the event by her predecessor Ximena Navarrete of Mexico. She became the first woman from Angola, and the fourth woman from Africa to win the title after South Africa in 1978, Namibia in 1992 and Botswana in 1999. Contestants from 89 countries and territories participated in this year's pageant, surpassing the previous record of 86 contestants in 2006. This marks the most recent edition, as of 2021, that any country has posted its first national win at Miss Universe.

After 42 years, this is the third time the Philippines won Miss Universe, after Margarita Moran in 1973. 80 contestants competed for the crown.
