History

A post office was established at Lenton, Indian Territory on October 22, 1901. Its name changed to Gay, Oklahoma on April 28, 1908. The post office closed on December 31, 1932. [2]

The community is said to have been named after the town of Gay, Georgia. [3]

At the time it was founded, Lenton, later Gay, was located in Kiamitia County, a part of the Apukshunnubbee District of the Choctaw Nation. [4]

Paucaunla is a ghost town in Bryan County, Oklahoma. It is six miles east of Colbert, Oklahoma. A post office operated in Paucaunla from September 23, 1897 to July 15, 1910. The community was located in Chickasaw Nation. The name of the town may have been taken from the Choctaw word pakqli, which means "to flower," or the Chickasaw Pak-an-li, which means "blossom."

Wade is an unincorporated community in Bryan County, Oklahoma, United States. The community is located on Oklahoma State Highway 70E, 11 miles (18 km) south of Bokchito. Wade had a post office from October 24, 1890, to November 30, 1971. The community was named for Choctaw Alfred Wade.
