Gen Olson (born May 20,1938) is a retired teacher and Republican politician who is a former member of the Minnesota Senate representing portions of Hennepin and Wright counties in the western Twin Cities metropolitan area. She was the Republican nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota in the 1998 Minnesota gubernatorial election and also unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination in the 1994 United States Senate election in Minnesota. She was first elected to the Senate in 1982,and was re-elected in all the way until her retirement 2010. She served as an assistant minority leader from 1989 to 1990 and president pro tempore from 2011 until 2013. [1]
Olson graduated from Minnehaha Academy High School,then attended Wheaton College in Wheaton,Illinois from 1955 to 1956 before going on to the University of Minnesota,from which she graduated with honors in 1959 with a B.S.Ed. degree. She was a teacher at Annandale High School in Annandale and Osseo High School in Osseo from 1959 to 1966. She earned her Ed.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1990. In addition to her professional work in vocational education administration,Olson has been active in public service for many years,working for the Minnesota Department of Education,and serving on the boards of several organizations and on various commissions in her home community of Minnetrista,where she was also a member of the city council from 1979 to 1981,and mayor from 1981 to 1983. Olson ran for the Republican endorsement for the U.S. Senate in 1994,but lost the nomination to future senator Rod Grams at the party's state convention. She was later Senator Norm Coleman's running mate when he ran for governor in 1998. They lost the general election to Jesse Ventura. She was a member of the Minnesota Statehood Sesquicentennial Commission from 2006 to 2008. [1] In 2007,Governor Tim Pawlenty appointed her as a member of the Minnesota delegation to the Education Commission of the States,an interstate compact created in 1965 to improve public education by facilitating the exchange of information,ideas and experiences among state policymakers and education leaders. The commission is headquartered in Denver,Colorado. The Minnesota delegation consists of seven members,including the Governor himself. [3] [4] Olson served on the Senate's Education Committee (on which she is the ranking minority party member),the Environment and Natural Resources Committee,the Finance Committee,the Rules and Administration Committee,and the Transportation Committee. She also served on the Finance subcommittees for the E-12 Education Budget and Policy Division,for the Transportation Budget and Policy Division,and for the Transportation Budget and Policy Division-Transit Subdivision,and on the Rules and Administration Subcommittee for Committees. [5] Her special legislative concerns included education,property tax reform,cost of government,environment and natural resources,tax policy,agriculture,economic development,and local government. [1]
Olson did not run for re-election in 2012.
Mee Moua,is an American politician,and is the former president and executive director of the Asian Americans Advancing Justice -AAJC She served as the vice president for strategic impact initiatives at the Asian &Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) from 2011–12,and as a member of the Minnesota state senate from 2002 to 2011. On February 3,2017,Moua announced her departure from AAJC to "spend more time with her family,for her children and their future,and being the right kind of mom for them."

Karen Rae Tallian is an American politician and attorney who served as a member of the Indiana Senate for the 4th district from December 2005 through October 2021. She was re-elected in 2006,2010 and 2014. While serving in the Senate,Tallian,a progressive,has supported medicinal prescription and the decriminalization of marijuana,and has authored bills in its favor. In 2015,she announced her candidacy for governor of Indiana but dropped out that same year,well before the primary season. Tallian was also a candidate for the Democratic Party nomination for Indiana Attorney General in 2020,but lost the nomination to Jonathan Weinzapfel.

Olson is a Minnesota (US) politician and a former member of the Minnesota Senate who represented District 4,which includes portions of Beltrami,Cass,Crow Wing,Hubbard,and Itasca counties in the northern part of the state. A Democrat,she was first elected in 2006. On November 2,2010,she lost her re-election bid to the Republican John Carlson.

John Hottinger is a Minnesota attorney and politician and a former member and majority leader of the Minnesota Senate. First elected in 1990,he was re-elected in 1992,1996,2000 and 2002. A Democrat,he represented the old District 24 prior to the 2002 redistricting,and the District 23 thereafter. The district included portions of Blue Earth,Le Sueur,Nicollet,Sibley and Waseca counties in the south central part of the state.
Michelle Louise Helene Fischbach is an American attorney and politician who is the U.S. representative from Minnesota's 7th congressional district. The district,which is very rural,is Minnesota's largest congressional district and includes most of the western area of the state. A Republican,Fischbach served as the 49th lieutenant governor of Minnesota from 2018 until 2019. As of 2024,she is the most recent Republican to have held statewide office in Minnesota.
Sharon L. Erickson Ropes is a Minnesota politician and a former member of the Minnesota Senate who represented District 31,which includes portions of Fillmore,Houston,and Winona counties in the southeastern part of the state. A Democrat,she was first elected to the Senate in 2006. She was subsequently unseated by Republican Jeremy Miller in the 2010 general election.
Ray Vandeveer is a Minnesota politician and former member of the Minnesota Senate representing District 52,which included portions of Anoka and Washington counties in the northeastern Twin Cities metropolitan area. A Republican,he was first elected to the Senate in 2006,and was reelected in 2010.
Ann Lynch is a Minnesota politician and a former member of the Minnesota Senate who represented District 30,which includes portions of Olmsted and Wabasha counties in the southeastern part of the state. As a Democrat,she was first elected to the Senate in 2006,but was unseated by Republican Carla Nelson in the 2010 general election.
Joseph R. "Joe" Gimse is a Minnesota politician and a former member of the Minnesota Senate who represented District 13,which included portions of Kandiyohi,Pope and Stearns counties in the west central part of the state. A Republican,he was first elected to the Senate in 2006,and was reelected in 2010. He also ran unsuccessfully for the seat in 2002 against former Senator Dean Johnson. He served as an assistant minority leader. Gimse ran for reelection in 2012 in the newly drawn 17th District,but was defeated by Clara City DFLer Lyle Koenen.
Richard "Rick" Olseen is a Minnesota politician and a former member of the Minnesota Senate,representing District 17,which includes portions of Anoka,Chisago and Isanti counties in the northeastern part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. A Democrat,he was first elected to the Senate in 2006. He was unseated by Republican Sean Nienow in the 2010 general election;he had previously unseated Nienow in the 2006 general election.
Kathy L. Saltzman is a Minnesota politician and a former member of the Minnesota Senate who represented District 56,which includes portions of Washington County in the eastern Twin Cities metropolitan area. A moderate Democrat,she was first elected to the Senate in 2006,but was unseated by Republican Ted Lillie in her 2010 re-election bid. She was a majority whip.
Sandy Rummel is a Minnesota politician and a former member of the Minnesota Senate who represented District 53,which includes portions of Anoka and Ramsey counties in the northeastern Twin Cities metropolitan area. A Democrat,she was first elected to the Senate in 2006,but was unseated in the 2010 general election by Republican Roger Chamberlain. She was subsequently appointed to the Metropolitan Council by Governor Mark Dayton on March 2,2011.

Lisa A. Fobbe is a Minnesota politician and a former member of the Minnesota Senate who represented District 16,which includes portions of Benton,Mille Lacs,Morrison and Sherburne counties in the central part of the state. The seat became vacant when Senator Betsy Wergin resigned on July 28,2008,in order to accept an appointment by Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty as a member of the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission. She was unseated by Republican David Brown in the 2010 general election.
Patricia Louise "Pat" Kronebusch was a Minnesota politician and a member of the Minnesota Senate who represented District 34,which included portions of Houston,Olmsted,Wabash and Winona counties in the southeastern part of the state. A Republican,she was first elected to the Senate in 1980,and was re-elected in 1982.
