George E. Schaefer Jr. (born November 23, 1989) is an American baseball coach and former pitcher. He played college baseball at Charleston Southern for coach Stuart Lake from 2009 to 2013. He then served as the interim head coach of the Charleston Southern Buccaneers in 2020.

Playing career

Schaefer attended Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. [1] Schaefer played for the school's varsity basketball and baseball teams. He was named Bishop Sullivan's Pitcher of the Year as a junior and senior, as well as being named team MVP as a senior. He pitched to a career 12–7 record and a 2.91 ERA. Schaefer then enrolled at the Charleston Southern University, to play college baseball for the Charleston Southern Buccaneers baseball team.

Coaching career

Schaefer worked as the director of baseball operations for the Lehigh Mountain Hawks baseball program in 2014 while working on his master's degree. [2] In the fall of 2014, he was hired to become the pitching coach at Iona College. [3]

On December 31, 2019, Buccaneer's head coach Adam Ward stepped down and Schaefer was named the interim head coach for the 2020 season. [4]

Ed Kenna American baseball player

Edward Benninghaus Kenna, nicknamed "The Pitching Poet", was an American Major League Baseball pitcher, college football coach and newspapers editor. He played for the Philadelphia Athletics during the 1902 season. Kenna played football as Georgetown University as a fullback in 1898 and at West Virginia University as a fullback and kicker in 1901. He served as the head football coach at the University of Richmond in 1900 and West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1902. Kenna was later an editor of the Charleston Gazette. He died on March 22, 1912, in Grant, Florida.

Jamey Chadwell American football coach

Jamey Chadwell is an American football coach and former player, who serves as the head coach and offensive coordinator at Coastal Carolina; he also served as interim head coach in the 2017 season while permanent head coach Joe Moglia was on a medical leave. He was named Head Coach of CCU on January 18, 2019. Chadwell was previously the head coach at Charleston Southern University for four seasons (2013–16), North Greenville University for three seasons (2009–2011) and Delta State University for one season (2012). He grew up in Tennessee and attended East Tennessee State University where he played quarterback from 1995 to 1999. He began his coaching career in 2000 at East Tennessee State before taking an assistant position at Charleston Southern University in 2004. Stephen Carr Smith is an American baseball coach and former pitcher. He is the head coach at Tennessee Technological University. He played college baseball at Baylor University from 1982 to 1983. He was the head coach at Baylor from 1995 to 2015.

Randy Mazey American college baseball coach (born 1966)

Randy Mazey is an American college baseball coach. He is the head baseball coach at West Virginia University, a position he had held since the 2013 season. Mazey attended Clemson University, where he played baseball for the Tigers from 1985 to1988. Following a brief professional playing career, Mazey began his coaching career in 1990 as an assistant at Clemson. He was the head coach of Charleston Southern from 1994 to 1996 and East Carolina from 2003 to 2005, leading both teams to NCAA Division I Tournament appearances. After seven years as an assistant at TCU, Mazey was named the head coach at West Virginia in July 2012. Mazey was named the Big 12 Conference Baseball Coach of the Year in 2019.

Monte Lee American college baseball coach (born 1977)

Monte Wesley Lee is an American college baseball coach. He is the head coach for the Clemson Tigers baseball team. From 2009 until 2015, he was the head coach of the Charleston Cougars, his alma mater. Under Lee, the Cougars reached four NCAA Tournaments, including one NCAA Super Regional.

Stuart Daniel Lake is an American college baseball coach who is currently the Coordinator of Baseball Administration / Director of Player Development for South Carolina Gamecocks baseball. He was named the Big South Coach of the Year in 2011, when the Charleston Southern Buccaneers went 29–30 and tied for third place in the conference after finishing last in 2010.

Ryan Mau is an American college baseball coach, currently serving as head coach of the Longwood Lancers baseball team. He has held that position since the beginning of the 2015 season. He pitched one season at Flagler and three at College of Charleston before two seasons in the Miami Marlins organization and one in independent baseball. The 2018 NCAA Division I Baseball season, play of college baseball in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level, began in February 2018.
