The George Washington Colonials men's soccer team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of George Washington University in Washington, D.C., United States. [2] The team is a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. George Washington's first men's soccer team was fielded in 1967. The team plays its home games at Mount Vernon Athletic Field in Washington, D.C. The Colonals are coached by Craig Jones.
Among the program's major titles, the Colonials have collected two A10 Championships in 2002 and 2004 and 3 Regular Season A10 titles in 1992, 2011 and 2015. The Colonials have made it to the NCAA Tournament 3 times, including the Round of 16 in 1989. The team has won the DC College Cup twice in 2007 and 2008. The cup is a competition between four Washington metropolitan area universities including George Mason, Georgetown, American, and Howard.
George Lidster coached GW for 24 years and is the winningest coach in the team's history and has amassed 201 wins to this point. A native of England, Lidster began his career playing professionally in Europe for Newcastle United F.C. and later Darlington F.C. He has played with former US National team players including John Kerr Jr. and Bruce Murray. Before GW he was assistant coach at nearby George Mason University. He has been named A10 Coach of the year three times in 1989, 1992, and 2011. He will be succeeded by Assistant Coach and former GW player and captain Craig Jones at the start of next[ when? ] season.
During the 2015 season, Head Coach Craig Jones was named A10 Coach of the Year as his squad won the A10 Regular Season Title on the final game day in overtime away at St. Louis, but lost in the first round of the A10 tournament.
2011 Season: The 2011 season saw one of GW's most successful teams in the history of the program as the team won the regular season championship finishing 7–2 in conference play, including a 5–0 record at home conceding 0 goals. The team ended its regular season in dramatic fashion capturing its first A10 regular season title in nearly 20 years with a 1–0 victory against Duquesne University in front of nearly 1,000 fans. George Lidster also earned his 200th win in the final regular season game, which saw the team capture the title and a second place bid into the A10 Tournament. The team finished second to Xavier in the tournament.

The NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament, sometimes known as the College Cup, is an American intercollegiate soccer tournament conducted by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and determines the Division I men's national champion. The tournament has been formally held since 1959, when it was an eight-team tournament. Since then, the tournament has expanded to 48 teams, in which every Division I conference tournament champion is allocated a berth. Among the most successful programs, Saint Louis won 10 titles during dynasty years between 1959 and 1973. Indiana has won 8 titles beginning in 1982, whereas Virginia has won 7 titles beginning in 1989.
College soccer is played by teams composed of soccer players who are enrolled in colleges and universities. The United Kingdom also has a university league. The institutions typically hire full-time professional coaches and staff, although the student athletes are mostly amateur and are not paid. College soccer in the United States is sponsored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the sports regulatory body for major universities, and by the governing bodies for smaller universities and colleges. This sport is played on a rectangular field of the dimensions of about 70–75 yards sideline to sideline (width), and 115–120 yards goal line to goal line (length).

Michael Thomas Lonergan is the former head coach of the George Washington University Colonials men's basketball team. He replaced Karl Hobbs. He was formerly the coach of the University of Vermont Catamounts and the Catholic University of America (CUA) and before that a point guard for CUA.
The UCF Knights are the athletic teams that represent the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida. The Knights participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) Division I as a member of the American Athletic Conference. UCF was invited to join the Big 12 Conference on September 10, 2021, and accepted the invitation later that day. The American Athletic Conference announced on June 10, 2022 that UCF had been approved for an early exit of the conference following the 2022-23 season, permitting them to enter the Big 12 Conference for the 2023-24 season. Since men's soccer is not sponsored by the Big 12, they will play in the Sun Belt Conference beginning in 2023.

George Lidster is the former head men's soccer coach at George Washington University. He held that position from 1987–1996 and 1998–2011, and posted a 188-175-49 record in 22 seasons, making him the all-time winningest coach in school history. Additionally he has compiled an 89-75-23 record in Atlantic 10 conference play, and has won 2 Atlantic 10 tournament titles, and made 3 NCAA tournament appearances.

The South Florida Bulls men's soccer team represents the University of South Florida in the sport of soccer. The Bulls currently compete in the American Athletic Conference within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). USF plays in Corbett Stadium, which opened in 2011 and is also used by the USF women's soccer team. Prior to that, they played at USF Soccer Field from their first season in 1965 until 1978 and USF Soccer Stadium from 1979 until 2010. They are coached by Bob Butehorn, who is in his sixth year with the Bulls as of the 2022 season.
The 2014–15 George Washington Colonials women's basketball team represented George Washington University during the 2014–15 college basketball season. Jonathan Tsipis resumed the responsibility as head coach for a third consecutive season. The Colonials were members of the Atlantic 10 Conference and played their home games at the Charles E. Smith Center. They finished the season 29–4, 15–1 in A-10 play to win the A-10 regular season title and also won the A-10 Tournament. They received an automatic bid to the NCAA women's tournament where they lost to Gonzaga in the first round.
The 2020 Atlantic 10 Conference men's soccer season is the 34th season of men's college soccer in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The season was scheduled to begin on August 29, 2020 and conclude on November 6, 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The season is scheduled to begin on February 3, 2021 and conclude on April 11, 2021.
The 1993–94 George Washington Colonials men's basketball team represent George Washington University as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference during the 1993–94 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was coached by Mike Jarvis and played their home games at the Charles E. Smith Athletic Center. The Colonials finished in a three-way tie for third place in the regular season conference standings. After being knocked out in the semifinal round of the A-10 tournament, GW received an at-large bid to the 1994 NCAA tournament as No. 10 seed in the East region. The Colonials defeated No. 7 seed UAB before falling to No. 2 seed UConn, 75–63, to finish with a record of 18–12.
