The George Washington Revolutionaries men's soccer team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of George Washington University in Washington, D.C., United States. [1] The team is a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. George Washington's first men's soccer team was fielded in 1967. The team plays its home games at Mount Vernon Athletic Field in Washington, D.C. The Colonals are coached by Craig Jones.
Among the program's major titles, the Revolutionaries have collected two A10 Championships in 2002 and 2004 and 3 Regular Season A10 titles in 1992, 2011 and 2015. The Revolutionaries have made it to the NCAA Tournament 3 times, including the Round of 16 in 1989. The team has won the DC College Cup twice in 2007 and 2008. The cup is a competition between four Washington metropolitan area universities including George Mason, Georgetown, American, and Howard.
George Lidster coached GW for 24 years and is the winningest coach in the team's history and has amassed 201 wins to this point. A native of England, Lidster began his career playing professionally in Europe for Newcastle United F.C. and later Darlington F.C. He has played with former US National team players including John Kerr Jr. and Bruce Murray. Before GW he was assistant coach at nearby George Mason University. He has been named A10 Coach of the year three times in 1989, 1992, and 2011. He will be succeeded by Assistant Coach and former GW player and captain Craig Jones at the start of next[ when? ] season.
During the 2015 season, Head Coach Craig Jones was named A10 Coach of the Year as his squad won the A10 Regular Season Title on the final game day in overtime away at St. Louis, but lost in the first round of the A10 tournament.
2011 Season: The 2011 season saw one of GW's most successful teams in the history of the program as the team won the regular season championship finishing 7–2 in conference play, including a 5–0 record at home conceding 0 goals. The team ended its regular season in dramatic fashion capturing its first A10 regular season title in nearly 20 years with a 1–0 victory against Duquesne University in front of nearly 1,000 fans. George Lidster also earned his 200th win in the final regular season game, which saw the team capture the title and a second place bid into the A10 Tournament. The team finished second to Xavier in the tournament.

The United Kingdom also has a university league. The institutions typically hire full-time professional coaches and staff, although the student athletes are mostly amateur and are not paid. College soccer in the United States is sponsored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the sports regulatory body for major universities, and by the governing bodies for smaller universities and colleges. This sport is played on a rectangular field of the dimensions of about 70–75 yards sideline to sideline (width), and 115–120 yards goal line to goal line (length).
The Virginia Cavaliers, also known as Wahoos or Hoos, are the athletic teams representing the University of Virginia, located in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers compete at the NCAA Division I level, in the Atlantic Coast Conference since 1953. Known simply as Virginia or UVA in sports media, the athletics program has twice won the Capital One Cup for men's sports after leading the nation in overall athletic excellence in those years. The St. John's Red Storm is the nickname used for the 17 varsity athletic programs of St. John's University, in the U.S. state of New York. St. John's 17 NCAA Division I teams compete in the Big East Conference, with the exception of the fencing team, which compete in the ECAC. On December 15, 2012, St. John's and the other six Catholic, non-FBS schools announced that they were departing the former Big East for a new conference. The "Catholic 7", after purchasing the "Big East" name from the FBS schools and adding Butler, Creighton, and Xavier, began operating as the new Big East Conference beginning in July 2013.
The UCF Knights are the athletic teams that represent the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida. The Knights participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) Division I as a member of the American Athletic Conference. UCF was invited to join the Big 12 Conference on September 10, 2021, and accepted the invitation later that day. The American Athletic Conference announced on June 10, 2022 that UCF had been approved for an early exit of the conference following the 2022-23 season, permitting them to enter the Big 12 Conference for the 2023-24 season. Since men's soccer is not sponsored by the Big 12, they will play in the Sun Belt Conference beginning in 2023.
The San Jose State Spartans are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent San José State University. SJSU sports teams compete in the Mountain West Conference (MW) at the NCAA Division I level, with football competing in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). San Jose State is one of 20 Division I members in the state of California, seven of which are FBS members. The other FBS members are fellow MW conference mates Fresno State and San Diego State, plus Pac-12 Conference members University of California, Stanford, UCLA and USC. SJSU has participated in athletics since it first fielded a baseball team in 1890.
The VCU Rams are the athletic teams of Virginia Commonwealth University of Richmond, Virginia, United States. The Denver Pioneers are the sports teams of the University of Denver (DU). They play in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. Denver is a member of The Summit League for men's and women's basketball, swimming and diving, men's and women's soccer, tennis and golf for both men and women, plus women's volleyball. Other DU teams play in various conferences in the sports that are not sponsored by The Summit. The men's ice hockey team is a charter member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC), which formed in 2011 with play beginning in 2013. George Lidster is the former head men's soccer coach at George Washington University. He held that position from 1987–1996 and 1998–2011, and posted a 188-175-49 record in 22 seasons, making him the all-time winningest coach in school history. Additionally he has compiled an 89-75-23 record in Atlantic 10 conference play, and has won 2 Atlantic 10 tournament titles, and made 3 NCAA tournament appearances.

The South Florida Bulls men's soccer team represents the University of South Florida in the sport of soccer. The Bulls currently compete in the American Athletic Conference within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). USF plays in Corbett Stadium, which opened in 2011 and is also used by the USF women's soccer team. Prior to that, they played at USF Soccer Field from their first season in 1965 until 1978 and USF Soccer Stadium from 1979 until 2010. They are coached by Bob Butehorn, who is in his sixth year with the Bulls as of the 2022 season.
The Revolutionary Rivalry is a rivalry between the George Mason Patriots and George Washington Revolutionaries, both of which play in the Atlantic 10 Conference and are located in the Washington metropolitan area. Both schools are named after founding fathers, George Mason and George Washington, who were both natives to Virginia and had their plantations, Gunston Hall and Mount Vernon, respectively, on the southside of modern Fairfax County.
