Arnod Gerrit Niekoop is a former Surinamese football player, referee and board member of the Surinamese Football Association, as well as board member and former chairman of the Surinamese Refereeing Commission. [1]
During his playing career he played in the Surinamese Hoofdklasse for S.V. Robinhood and M.V.V., and for the Suriname national team. He spent most of his professional playing career with S.V. Robinhood, winning five national titles, finishing as the league top scorer in 1964. [2]
Born in Diitabiki, Surinam, Niekoop joined S.V. Robinhood in 1954. Playing together with Humphrey Mijnals, Siegfried Haltman and Kenneth Kluivert during his career with Robinhood, he helped form the dangerous attack of Robinhood, only rivaled by S.V. Transvaal at the time. [3] In 1964 he led Robinhood to an undefeated season, winning the National championship and finishing as the leagues top goal scorer that same season. [4] [5]
In 1966, he joined M.V.V. (Militaire Voetbal Vereniging), the football club of the military. He would continue his goal scoring habits at his new club, playing with the likes of Armand Doesburg and George Headley, who were considered a dangerous attacking tandem. [6]
Niekoop played for the Suriname national team, playing in the nation's first Olympic qualifiers following the foundation of the Surinamese Olympic Committee (S.O.C.) in 1959. [7]
He made his first appearance in a friendly match on 20 September 1959 against Martinique scoring the winning goal on his debut. [8] On 20 March 1964, he scored the equalizer in a 2–2 draw with the Netherlands Antilles in the countries first Olympic qualifying match. [9] Niekoop scored additional goals in both losses against Argentina and Peru, before Suriname were eliminated in the second round. He also played in the CCCF Championship as well as the countries 1966 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
Following his playing career, Niekoop became a referee in the SVB Hoofdklasse in Suriname. Licensed by both FIFA and CONCACAF, Niekoop has refereed for International tournaments, including the 2008 CONCACAF Women's U-17 Championship and the 2012 CONCACAF Men's Olympic qualifiers. [10]
As a member of the Surinamese Refereeing Commission, he became the chairman of the board, as well as a board member of the Surinamese Football Association. [11] No longer the chairman, he is still a member of the board and has been involved in the official training and licensing of referees in Suriname by FIFA. [12]
In June 2012, Niekoop was present when former Jungle Commando leader and owner of football club Inter Moengotapoe, Ronnie Brunswijk, intimidated the assistant referee and tore his shirt during a match against S.V. Transvaal, in which Transvaal had been awarded a free kick. [13]

Sport Vereniging Transvaal is a Surinamese association football club, which currently play in the Eerste Divisie, the top flight of football in Suriname. They play their home games in Paramaribo at André Kamperveen Stadion to a capacity of 7,100.
Sport Vereniging Robinhood is a Surinamese professional football club based in Paramaribo that competes in the SVB Eerste Divisie, the highest level of football in Suriname. Founded on 6 February 1945, Robinhood is the most successful club in Surinamese football, having won a record 25 league titles, and a record of five Beker van Surinames and President's Cups apiece. The club was the first Surinamese club to make the final of a North American tournament, reaching the 1972 CONCACAF Champions' Cup final. Though making five CONCACAF club championship finals in their history, Robinhood has never won a continental title.

Errol 'Emau' Rudolph Emanuelson is a retired Surinamese footballer who played as a forward for SV Robinhood in the Hoofdklasse, and for the Suriname national team. He also spent a loan spell in Belgium playing for Sint-Niklaas.
Roché Emanuelson is a Surinamese footballer who plays as a defender for Boma Star in the Hoofdklasse, and for the Suriname national team. He has also played for SV Transvaal, SV Robinhood, Royal '95 and SV Leo Victor in the past.
Edwien Reinier Schal, known as Wiene Schal is a retired Surinamese footballer who started his career as a forward for SV Transvaal in the Hoofdklasse, and for the Suriname national team. A striker for the majority of his career, he was utilized more as defender towards the end of his career. He is considered one of the greatest footballers in the countries history, having captained SV Transvaal to two CONCACAF Champions Cups and five national titles, in what is considered the golden age of the club's history.
Frits Lambertus Purperhart was a Surinamese football manager and player, a member of the Suriname Olympic Committee board of directors as well as being a board member for the National broadcasting network Telesur in Suriname.
Remie Jacques Olmberg is a retired Surinamese footballer who played as a defender for SV Robinhood in the Hoofdklasse, and the Suriname national team. He was the team captain for SV Robinhood for a decade during one of the club's most successful periods, having won three national titles and finishing as runners-up in the CONCACAF Champions Cup on three occasions as well. He also won the Surinamese Footballer of the Year award twice.
Ronald Wilfried Kolf is a former Surinamese football manager and player who last served as the technical director of the Suriname national team and a board member of Surinamese football club S.V. Leo Victor.
Umberto Orlando Klinker is a former Surinamese football player who played the majority of his career for S.V. Robinhood in the SVB Hoofdklasse and for the Suriname national team. Klinker helped Robinhood to win several national championships in the eighties and finished as the league top scorer in 1982 and 1983.
Rinaldo Stanley Entingh is a former Surinamese footballer. He played as a midfielder in the SVB Hoofdklasse for S.V. Robinhood and for the Suriname national team.
Armand Sahadewsing was a former Surinamese football player and manager who has played for S.V. Transvaal in the Surinamese Hoofdklasse, and for AFC DWS in the Dutch Eredivisie.
