The Ghana Optometric Association (GOA) is the professional and regulatory body responsible for the development of the optometry profession in Ghana. [1]
The association was formed in 1997 to unite the optometry professionals as well as provide a united front to promote the activities of member. [1]
Five executives lead the GOA. It is headed by the late Dr. Julius Darko as president of GOA, then subsequently Dr. Samuel O. Asiedu. [1] Dr. Remi Ninkpe is the current president.
The association in 2009 passed a resolution mandating all optometrists wanting to be members to write a professional exam. Upon successfully passing the exam, the certification required to practice optometry in Ghana is awarded. The group has about 200 members. In 2010, the Ghana Optometric Association along with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology's Faculty of Distance Learning [2] rolled out a two-year program to offer all members of GOA who did not have the Doctor of Optometry degree to enroll for it.

Vision therapy (VT), or behavioral optometry, is an umbrella term for alternative medicine treatments using eye exercises, based around the pseudoscientific claim that vision problems are the true underlying cause of learning difficulties, particularly in children. Vision therapy has not been shown to be effective using scientific studies, except for helping with convergence insufficiency. Most claims—for example that the therapy can address neurological, educational, and spatial difficulties—lack supporting evidence. Neither the American Academy of Pediatrics nor the American Academy of Ophthalmology support the use of vision therapy.

It is under the KNUST College of Architecture and Planning. The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the award of a degree. It is the only institution in Ghana professionally recognized by its government to train personnel to promote, coordinate and manage development at the national and sub-national levels.
The eye care system in Ghana can be said to be one in its infant or growing stages. Today there are less than 300 eye care professionals taking care of the eye needs of over 23 million Ghanaians.

The first professional body in independent Ghana, it was registered in 1962 and inaugurated in December 1964 as a self-governing and fully indigenous institution to advance the architectural practice, education and accreditation in the country. The Institute is the successor to the pre-independence Gold Coast Society of Architects, a colonial social club for Gold Coast-based architects founded in August 1954. The first president of the Ghana Institute of Architects was Theodore Shealtiel Clerk (1909–1965), the first formally trained, professionally certified Ghanaian architect and an award-winning urban planner who designed, planned and developed the harbour city of Tema.
