Commonwealth Games appearances (overview)

Ghana competed at their twelfth games in Manchester [1] sending 22 athletes [2] in mixed teams in athletics, badminton and weightlifting and sent all male teams to compete in boxing and judo. [3] Despite this strong team, the only medal won was a bronze in the Women's Heptathlon. A poor showing by Ghana's high standards of the past.

Jessica Zelinka is a Canadian pentathlete, heptathlete, and 100 m hurdler. Her personal best score is 6599 points for the heptathlon. She was the gold medalist at the 2007 Pan American Games. Zelinka won silver at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and repeated her silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. At the 2012 Summer Olympics Zelinka finished in 6th overall in the heptathlon and 7th in the 100 m hurdles.

Mauritius competed in their eleventh Commonwealth Games in 2002 sending both male and female athletes to compete in Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Judo, Swimming, Table Tennis and Weightlifting The nation gained their only medal in 100 kg men's judo, a bronze. This was a decrease on Kuala Lumpur 1998 when it won a gold a silver and two bronze.

Malta competed in their ninth Commonwealth Games in 2002 sending 13 male and 4 female athletes to compete in Athletics, Shooting, Swimming, Triathlon, Weightlifting and Wrestling. The nation gained their only medal in the men's Double Trap Shooting, a bronze. This was the second time Malta had won a medal at the games, their first coming in Auckland in 1990.

Pakistan competed in Manchester for their ninth Commonwealth Games. It sent mixed teams in Athletics, Badminton, Squash and Table Tennis. All male teams in Boxing, Cycling, Hockey, Judo, Shooting, Weightlifting and Wrestling, and an all female team in Swimming. In total it sent 46 males and five females. It won its only gold in Boxing, three silvers in Weightlifting and bronze medals in Hockey, Shooting and Wrestling. Finishing 19th overall in the medals table.

Mozambique competed in its second commonwealth Games in 2002. It sent six male athletes to the games and three females, competing in athletics, badminton, boxing and swimming. Maria Lurdes Mutola won the nation's only medal, a gold in the women's 800 meters, finishing over a second ahead of her nearest rival.

Akela Jones is a Barbadian track and field athlete who holds Barbadian records in the women's heptathlon, pentathlon, long jump and high jump. She won gold in the long jump at the 2014 World Junior Championships. In 2015, she was NCAA champion in the heptathlon and won bronze in the high jump at the Pan American Games.

The Commonwealth Fencing Federation is the governing body recognised by the Commonwealth Games Federation as being responsible for the running of competitions in the sport of fencing within the Commonwealth member states. The federation was formed when fencing ceased to be a core sport within the Commonwealth Games after the 1970 event. It was previously known as the Empire Fencing Federation, which was formed in 1950.
