Giles Cooper is a British entertainment producer, concert promoter and marketer. [1] He is managing director of Soho Media Group, [2] based in the West End of London and CEO of Giles Cooper Entertainment t/a GCE Live. [3] He is chairman of the Royal Variety Charity, [4] and since 2010 has been one of the producers of its annual fund-raising event, the Royal Variety Performance. [5]

Cooper was made a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 2006, and received the Freedom of the City of London in 2014. [6]

Work

Cooper worked for music magazines Melody Maker and New Musical Express , [5] and in 1998 founded a marketing agency, Media Junction.[ citation needed ]

Cooper was a volunteer with the Entertainment Artistes Benevolent Fund – now known as the Royal Variety Charity – from 2007. [7] In 2010, he was elected chairman of the charity. [8] He organises, and is one of the producers of, the Royal Variety Performance, an annual fundraising event. [9] [10] In 2015, Cooper was one of the producers of a Sunday Night at the London Palladium show [11] with Des O'Connor and Jimmy Tarbuck to raise funds for the charity. [12]

Cooper has promoted music tours for bands such as Placebo and the Happy Mondays [13] and theatre and spoken-word tours for BBC TV presenters such as Simon Reeve [14] [15] and Dan Snow. [16]

Cooper is also well known for presenting and producing outdoor concerts in the grounds of English Heritage and other stately homes such as Kenwood House on London’s Hampstead Heath [17] and Audley End House and Gardens in Saffron Walden, Essex. [18]

He has also produced shows for artists such as Kris Kristofferson, [19] Alfie Boe, [20] Hacienda Classical, Orbital and Leftfield, [21] Jose Carreras, [22] the Human League, ABC, [23] and the Jacksons. [18]

Thomas Frederick Cooper was a British prop comedian and magician. As an entertainer, his appearance was large and lumbering at 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m), and he habitually wore a red fez when performing. He initially served in the British Army for seven years, before eventually developing his conjuring skills and becoming a member of the The Magic Circle. Although he spent time on tour performing his magical act, which specialised on magic tricks that appeared to "fail", he rose to international prominence when his career moved into television, with programmes for London Weekend Television and Thames Television.

London Palladium West End theatre in London

The London Palladium is a Grade II* West End theatre located on Argyll Street, London, in the famous area of Soho. The theatre holds 2,286 seats. Of the roster of stars who have played there, many have televised performances. Between 1955 and 1969 Sunday Night at the London Palladium was held at the venue, which was produced for the ITV network. The show included a performance by The Beatles on 13 October 1963. One national paper's headlines in the following days coined the term "Beatlemania" to describe the increasingly hysterical interest in the band.
