Gilutongan is one of the islands comprising the Olango Island Group, a group of islands in between Mactan and the Danajon Bank in the Philippines. Most of the Olango islands are part of Lapu-Lapu City, Gilutongan, however, is under the jurisdiction of the municipality of Cordova, Cebu. [1] The island is approximately 5 km (3.1 mi) southeast from the town of Cordova. The population of Gilutongan is 1,606. [2]

The island is one of the destinations of island-hopping tours because the island has white-sand beaches and a marine sanctuary, where tourists can do snorkeling and underwater diving activities.

The island is locally administered by Barangay Gilutongan. The nearby uninhabited Nalusuan Island is also part of the territory of the barangay. Gilutongan has one public school, Gilutongan Integrated School. [3]

In December 2021, Typhoon Rai or Supertyphoon Odette has damaged 85% of the houses in Gilutongan and most of the residents' boats were wrecked. [4] The local government, civil society organizations and the Philippine Navy provided relief assistance to affected families in the island. [5]

The Olango Island Group is a group of islands found in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines. It comprises Olango island and 6 satellite islets namely: Caubian, Camungi, Caohagan, Gilutongan, Nalusuan, Pangan-an, and Sulpa. The island group has a total land area of approximately 1,030 hectares. It is divided under the jurisdiction of the city of Lapu-Lapu and the municipality of Cordova, Cebu. It lies 5 kilometers (3.1 mi) east of Mactan and is a major tourist destination in Cebu. It is known for its wildlife sanctuary. The entire area is the first declared Ramsar Wetland Site in the Philippines, as recognized in 1994.

Nalusuan is a natural island resort in the Cebu Strait, the Philippines, and one of the islands comprising the Olango Island Group. The island, which measures close to a hectare, is situated between Mactan Island and the Province of Bohol. Originally a sand bar, it was reclaimed to allow the construction of the Nalusuan Island Resort, which occupies the entire island.

The Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), also known as the Cebu–Cordova Bridge and the Third Cebu–Mactan Bridge, is an 8.9-kilometer (5.5 mi) toll bridge expressway in Metro Cebu. The bridge connects the South Road Properties in Cebu City in mainland Cebu, and Cordova, on Mactan island. Crossing the Mactan Channel, it is the third road link between Cebu and Mactan islands, and the first between Cebu City and Cordova. It is the longest sea-crossing bridge in the Philippines, surpassing the 2-kilometer (1.2 mi) San Juanico Bridge between Samar and Leyte, as well as Marcelo Fernan Bridge as the longest cable-stayed bridge in the Philippines.

Transportation within Cebu City is mainly land-based with most parts of the city accessible by road. There is no existing mass transit but there is an existing proposal for a Cebu Bus Rapid Transit System and Cebu Light Rail Transit System.

Pandanon is an island located in the Camotes Sea, in between the islands of Olango and Bohol, in the Visayas Region, Philippines. The island is locally administered by Barangay Pandanon, municipality of Getafe, Bohol. Pandanon is situated in the Danajon Bank, the only double barrier reef in the country and famous for its rich marine wildlife and diversity. It is 9 km (5.6 mi) northwest of the port of Getafe and 13 km (8.1 mi) southeast of Cordova, Cebu. While most of the residents in the island engage in fishing, some are employed in the tourism sector, working in the beach resorts of the island and provide island hopping tours for travelers. In the 2020 Census, the population of Pandanon is 2,362. With a very small area of only 0.07 km2 (0.027 sq mi), the island is regarded as having a very high population density.

Cuaming is an island located at the Cebu Strait, in the Visayas region, Philippines. It is part of the islands situated in the Danajon Bank, the country's only double barrier reef. The island's residents are mostly dependent entirely on fishing. Cuaming is one of the most densely populated islands in the Philippines.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Caubian Gamay Island</span> Philippine island

Caubian Gamay is a island of Lapu-Lapu City, Philippines. Located in the Camotes Sea, it is approximately 13 kilometers (8.1 mi) north from Getafe, Bohol and 15 kilometers (9.3 mi) east from Mactan Island. Together with the bigger uninhabited island, Caubian Daku, also called Poo, comprise the Barangay of Caubian. Both islands are located in the Danajon Bank, the only double barrier reef in the Philippines and known to be one of the richest fishing grounds in the country. It is part of the Olango Island Group. Most of the families depend on fishing and speak the Cebuano language. According to the 2020 census, the island has a population of 2,429. With an area of around 0.04km2, Caubian Gamay has an estimated population density of 60,725/km2. It is regarded to be one of the densest populated islands in the world.

Mocaboc is an island in the Philippines, situated approximately 14 km (8.7 mi) off the northwest of the island of Bohol. Located in the Cebu Strait, the island is part of the chain of islands situated in the Danajon Bank, the only double barrier reef in the country famous for its rich marine resources. Mocaboc Island is part of the jurisdiction of the municipality of Tubigon, Bohol. Most families of Mocaboc rely on fishing and is known for supplying Ginamos or fermented fish. According to the latest 2020 Census, the total population of Mocaboc is 670. With an estimated area of only 0.02 km2 (0.0077 sq mi), the island has a high population density.

Pangapasan is an island situated in the Cebu Strait, a narrow channel between the islands of Cebu and Bohol. Located around 5 km (3.1 mi) northwest from the coast of Bohol, Pangapasan is one of the chain of islands found in the only double barrier reef in the Philippines, the Danajon Bank. This natural ecosystem is rich in marine biodiversity. Most of the resident's livelihood depends on fishing and they sell seafood to nearby markets in Bohol and Metro Cebu.

Mantatao is an island off the coast of Bohol, Philippines. Situated in the Cebu Strait, the island is approximately 5 km (3.1 mi) north-northwest from the town center of Calape, Bohol. Mantatao is one of multiple chains of islands located in the Danajon Bank, the only double barrier reef in the country. The island is one of the 33 barangays that comprise the municipality of Calape. As of 2020, Mantatao's population is 972.

Caohagan, or sometimes spelled Cawhagan, is an island located in the Cebu Strait in the Philippines. The island is one of the islands that constitute the Olango Island Group, a group of islands off the coast of Mactan Island. Caohagan is under the jurisdiction of the city of Lapu-Lapu. Although, many residents still rely on fishing but some inhabitants of Caohagan are employed in tourism, working in the beach resort in the island, selling merchandise for tourists, opened food stalls and providing island-hopping tours.
